Job description

Orion Group have a current opportunity for a Principal Automation Engineer to join our clients project delivery team in Manchester on a 12 month contract basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Work activities will include both project and proposal work where both the technical approach and continuity must be aligned

  • Work activities for both projects and proposals will be executed across all phases of projects including Conceptual Studies; Basic; FEED; Detailed Design; Procurement through to Commissioning.

  • Projects and proposals are for process plant and facilities across the Chemical; Oil and Gas; Power and Energy Transition/ New Energy sectors

  • Project work will include development of Automation Engineering deliverables as required on a project by project basis

  • Project work as Control Systems Engineer working directly for the Lead Engineer

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Automation Engineerin, Either as EPC contractor or Control Systems vendor environment.

  • Experience on Medium/Large capital projects from concept to start-up

  • Proven ability to work as part of a multi-skilled Control and Instrument Engineering team working directly for the Lead Engineer.

  • Competent of working within the C&I Discipline of a contracting organisation.

  • Experienced in the implementation of the full lifecycle of automation projects including specifications development, design & implementation documentation development (philosophies, URS, I/O Lists, Range/Alarm/Trip/Shutdown schedules, system architecture diagrams, C&E Matrix, Control Narratives, etc), software and hardware realisation, testing and commissioning.

  • In-depth knowledge of OEM products e.g. DCS, PLCs, SIS & SCADA systems required (e.g. Emerson Delta V, ABB 800xA, Siemens S7, Rockwell/Allen Bradley, etc).

  • Able to support incorporation of mechanical equipment vendor packages into main Control System (Strong System Integration abilities and background required).

  • Proven ability for equipment specification and selection and in ensuring compliance from the suppliers, preferably within an EPC contracting organisation.

  • Very good proactive communicator. The role involves liaison with Client Engineers & Project Management.

  • Degree qualified for the related discipline.

  • Have or working towards Chartered Engineer status as a Member of the Institute of Measurement and Control (IMC) or Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

  • Competent in project execution using selected design tools and techniques.

  • Competent for budget & Schedule control / monitoring and reporting.

  • Competent in design safety, constructability.

  • To be able to work to Company standards.

  • Innovative when appropriate.

Desirable:

  • Fire & Gas systems

  • Familiarity with exSILentia software package preferred
