Associate Scientist I - Neurotoxins and Biologics Product Development
Irvine, CA - ONSITE
Length of the assignment: 1-2 years (with possible extension)
Hourly Pay Rate: $27-33/hr (medical insurance available at a cost)

Orion Group is seeking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Scientist to work with our global pharmaceutical client's R&D Team. The Neurotoxins and Biologics Product Development group at Irvine, CA is seeking a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the role of an Associate Scientist I.

The successful candidate, once He/she is fully trained, will have a critical role in supporting the overall Neurotoxin product development group by managing day-to-day laboratory activities. equipment and reagent inventory as well as follow policies and procedures for registration, use, shipment, and receipt of inventory. Candidate will also partner with Lab Operations and Facilities department staff to coordinate scheduling lab services, escorting vendors, or service technicians during on-site visits into research labs. In addition to inventory management responsibilities, the candidate will support the team by ordering supplies and materials.

The position is an entry level position in the scientific track supporting highly regulated inventory requirements, ordering, coordinating lab maintenance and supporting safety compliance. The candidate must productively interact with and accept direction from multiple different team members in a highly matrixed organization. The position requires participation in team discussions and decisions, and will also require proactive interaction with other departments, e.g., EH&S, IT, etc.

This position requires the individual to work in areas requiring select agent access. Access to and use of select agents is regulated by Federal policies. Violation or failing to support the intent of select agent policies, regulations or laws can result in substantial fines and/or imprisonment, as well as civil monetary penalties and are considered ground for dismissal.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Maintain oversight of day-to-day laboratory activities; manage inventory of raw materials, lab consumables, packaging supplies.
* Maintain laboratory equipment list and assist with induction of new equipment with laboratory services team.
* Accompany vendors for equipment servicing visits complying with safety policies.
* Manage ordering and receiving materials for team members.
* Coordinate sample transfer to support analytical testing.
* Support drug product manufacture preparation activities: buffer/solution preparation, packaging components (vials, stoppers, pumps, filters, tubing, etc.).
* Support inventory management using software specifically designed to manage movement of toxin/select agent materials.
* Perform annual inventory reconciliation activities, alongside other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology, or related life science field and 1 - 3 years relevant experience supporting complex, highly regulated laboratory activities.
* Meticulous attention to detail and diligence in record keeping.
* Exhibits flexibility and a commitment to scientific excellence.
* Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Highly motivated, pro-active hands-on scientist who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
