Candidate must be bilingual in Spanish. Also the candidate must have IADC, and IWCF Teacher certification, or the ability to obtain the teacher certification within the first 60 days. Job Description for a Well Control Instructor A well control instructor teaches accredited IADC and IWCF well control courses and other related technical classes. As a well control instructor, your responsibilities include ensuring all work meets industry standards, updating training records, collaborating with associated organizations, meeting deadlines, and providing support to students. Your duties include developing training courses, creating appropriate material, scheduling courses to meet operational requirements, assisting with program simulators and well models, and maintaining all systems and equipment. A well control instructor's goal is to teach drilling, oil, and gas information and prepare students to obtain professional certification. Qualifications to Become a Well Control Instructor To become a well control instructor, you typically need a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering, a related field, or technical training through a vocational school. You must also be a certified well control instructor. You can obtain certification by attending required classes and passing exams through the IADC and IWCF. Employers prefer candidates with extensive experience in drilling and familiarity with the oil and gas field. Other qualifications include strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, as well as prior experience with teaching or instruction, the ability to work with a diverse group of students and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
