Onsite in Abbott Park, IL
6+ month initial contract
Hourly Pay Rate: $33-36/hr ( Medical benefits available at a cost)

Orion Group is seeking a Scientist to work with our global pharmaceutical client's research team in Abbott Park, IL. If you are looking to advance your scientific career and become part of a team dedicated to developing medicines that save lives, read on!

The Quantitative, Translational and ADME Sciences Department in North Chicago, IL is seeking a scientist to conduct routine, medium to high volume in vivo biological sample extractions to prepare for quantitative Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry bioanalysis.

The scientist will partner with senior staff to understand the rationale and business needs behind sample preparation for bioanalysis. The selected candidate will learn to perform high throughput sample processing independently. Automated liquid handling platforms and conventional manual single and multi-channel pipettes will be used. Prior laboratory experience with robotic liquid handlers such as Hamilton platforms or Tecan printing units, knowledge of protein precipitation, liquid/liquid, or solid phase extraction techniques is highly desired.

Key Responsibilities Include:
* Independently process samples from various bio-matrices for in vivo sample extraction to support bioanalysis.
* Collaborate with department team members including Bioanalytical counterparts to ensure seamless and timely execution of in vivo small or large molecule quantitation.
* Work closely with multiple teams across Discovery and QTAS to support ADME Sciences and biomarker preparation for bioanalysis.
* Timely and accurately set up robotic liquid handling decks, track and execute proper extraction protocols, and bring anomalies to the attention of senior staff during daily workflow.

Qualifications:
* B.S in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field and 1+ year of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
* Previous experience with liquid handling systems such as Hamilton, Beckman and/or Tecan is highly desired, but not required.
* Experience with process development or optimization (may include automating).
* Technical aptitude with strong attention to detail.
* Ability to follow protocols accurately and precisely, maintain excellent documentation of all work including electronic lab notebooks.
* Highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work cross functionally. Ability to work well in a collaborative fast-paced team environment, committed to generating high-quality results within tight deadlines and across different projects.
* Passion for problem solving and applying new technologies to further scientific goals.

Key Leadership Competencies:
* Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.
* Learns fast, grasps the "essence" and can change course quickly where indicated.
* Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo.
* Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.
* Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality.

What are the top 3-5 skills, experience or education required for this position:
1. Knowledge of protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, and solid phase extraction
2. Ability to operate and troubleshoot Hamilton Robots, Tissue Homogenizers and other robotic platforms used for sample preparation
3. Ability to use LIMS systems and Electronic Notebook to fully document experimental methods and results
4. Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to collaborate successfully across other groups within R&D
5. Confident enough to admit making mistakes and bring those and other experimental deviations to the attention of Sr staff
