The Orion Partner Plus team are delighted to have been retained a global leader in advanced porous solutions, who are seeking to attract a Product Development Engineer.

SUMMARY

Located in the beautiful highlands of Scotland, our client is seeking a unique adaptable individual to join our energetic and growing team at our Alness facility and work in an entrepreneurial environment with low oversight. This team are part of a dynamic and high growth manufacturing business serving global markets through OEM partnerships, direct field sales and distribution partnerships. The Product Development Engineer's role will require a hands-on approach. We expect this role to have a continuous improvement mindset and to help drive this culture and work under minimal supervision in establishing design objectives, testing procedures, communicating with customers and project management. The individual will be responsible for supporting the successful launch of new products, ensuring they meet quality requirements, adhere to project timelines, and achieve customer and manufacturing acceptance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall, responsible for supporting sales opportunities with technical input to ensure we are able to meet the requirements of our customers

  • Liaise with customers to establish/confirm material and design requirements.

  • Oversee the qualification and validation of new product tooling.

  • Manage non-standard samples production.

  • Verify the new manufacturing methods.

  • Develop new test methods, including drafting of work instructions.

  • Communicate with customers and converters to negotiate and finalise product specifications based on first off samples production run results data.

  • Prepare project handover documentation to support the transfer of products to serial manufacturing.

  • Assist with internal projects, including designing and conducting experiments and testing to validate Porex Virtek® PTFE materials for various industry standards, including completion and summary of the test results.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant technical discipline, e.g. Scientific or Engineering, preferred

  • Minimum 2+ years' experience related to production, product development or quality in a related industry

  • Experience of planning and tracking milestones to delivery on projects

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Entrepreneurial attitude to their work with a bias for action to implement improvements.

  • Experience with project management.

  • MS Office, particularly Excel.

  • 2D modeling software, e.g., DraftSight - would be an advantage.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and coordinate multiple activities with a wide variety of disciplines within the company.

  • Willing to be hands-on in a manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), organisation, and project management skills.

  • Ability to project a professional, competent image to customers.

  • Trusted to work individually and in a small team.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to set priorities and effectively time manage multiple projects and responsibilities.

  • Takes action without being asked or required to and achieves goals beyond job requirements.

  • Able to plan, anticipate likely events and develop appropriate continuing plans.

  • Possesses, acquires, and maintains the technical expertise required to do the job effectively and can perform complex tasks in area of expertise.
