Packaging Engineer III
Chaska, MN
1 year contract with possibility for permanent hire
Hourly Pay Rate: $48/hr

Orion Group is seeking a skilled and experienced Packaging Engineer to join our team in Chaska, MN. As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing packaging solutions for our products. This role requires a strong understanding of packaging materials, processes, and equipment.

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for working with current package designs and exploring packaging and labeling technologies supporting a new development project. The engineer must have a solid foundation of packaging materials, fabrication processes, molding processes, ISTA and ASTM packaging test methods.

The engineer will be interfacing with Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing and suppliers. The engineer will assist with coordinating the release of new and enhancements to existing product packaging; participates in design reviews, inspection processes; and participates in the resolution of packaging issues.

The engineer will also be responsible for writing detailed package testing protocols, hands on with product pack-out for testing and cycling through different test sequences (environmental and distribution testing), and will be responsible for writing the final package test reports.

Training will be provided on the test sequences and writing/documentation process for the protocols and reports. Attention to detail to the test method and documentation is critical.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
* Provide packaging support for internal and external customers, globally.
* Participate in analysis and resolution of packaging issues using Problem Solving methodology.
* Write technical test protocols, reports, engineering drawings, and ensure manufacturing/packaging documents are created, updated and in compliance with company standards.
* Support release of new and enhancements to existing product packaging.
* Define packaging materials, with a focus on waste reduction.
* Responsible for tracking project schedules.
* Under minimum supervision, may initiate or implement minor to moderate package design changes; test and verify changes; and release change in compliance with company standards.
* Adheres to technical standards and follows local and global packaging testing standards based on ASTM and ISTA test methods
* Hands on working with product in the lab moving through the test sequences.

The essential requirements of the job include:
* Education: Minimum of Bachelors in Packaging, or Packaging related field
* Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in regulated FDA regulated field.
* Sufficient experience in technical writing; ISO and GMP as required.
* Experience with hands-on Distribution Testing per ASTM and/or ISTA.
* Experience with cushion curve analysis.
* Experience with labeling equipment, materials, and barcode verification
* Capable of handling up to 50 pounds
* Task management skills and multi-tasking abilities / ability to follow directions
* Very organized and detail oriented
* Excellent communication skills in English

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
* CAD Software experience, or similar
* Cold Chain/Thermodynamics experience or knowledge
* Hands-On Distribution Testing
