Job description

On behalf of our Client, a well-established manufacturing business operating within the food industry, recently winner of the Employer of the Year Award (Scotland Food and Drink Excellence) & SCDI Excellence in People Development, we are looking to recruit a Manufacturing Manager to join their busy operations based in Ross-shire.

Role description:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Lead, the successful post holder will play a crucial role in overseeing and optimizing the production processes within a specified area of manufacturing being directly responsible for the management of by-product process, including but not limited to the packing and freezing of a product.

You will be responsible for the management of raw material from the primary process onwards. This includes the management and recording, through manufacturing systems, of raw material throughout the secondary processes.

The role will support the Manufacturing Lead in running a production area and shift in line with budgeted labour, efficiencies and raw material standards whilst maintaining the highest quality product and customer service levels.

To lead, develop and coach partners to deliver a high-quality service, whilst championing the vision and values of the company. This role will have line management responsibility for Production Operative partners/agency personnel.

The main integral legal requirements of the role include, but are not limited to, health and safety, food safety and quality.

To support the running of a shift operation within the SQPDC (Safety, Quality, People, Delivery & Cost) framework, delivering on the shift KPI's set within each part of the framework.

Support inter-company departmental relations to ensure high levels of transparency and consistency, focused on optimising overall business performance.

The role will also involve interfacing with external customers and auditors during any factory audits, visits and pre-production launches.

Promoting continuous improvement and 'lean' processes at all times, focusing in Quality and Customer delivery.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Liaise and work effectively with the Manufacturing Lead (ML), deputising in their absence where necessary

  • Achieve efficient production practices, including partner and agency resource planning. Allocate partner resource, equipment and materials efficiently to meet production goals whilst minimising waste

  • Ensure detailed stock management, control, reporting and supporting documentation is regularly maintained and verified for accuracy through the use of manufacturing systems and excel records, keeping in line with requirements for traceability

  • Manage stock across multiple locations and across different sites

  • Responsibility for monitoring spend in line with budget for cold storage, transportation of frozen stock and by-product revenue generation.

  • Comfortable in a customer facing capacity

  • Delivery morning briefing - discuss the daily plan/schedule incorporating KPI's. H&S and Quality discussion coupled with any additional requests i.e. overtime, training, etc.

  • Manage daily headcount, holiday and absence planning, managing absence via the absence policy and highlight absence concerns at the earliest opportunity to the business

  • Maintain discipline in the department and check payroll each week in line with HR/Finance timing requirements.

  • Undertake probation reviews and support the continual monitoring of headcount as required by ML and other members of the Board/Leadership Team

  • Develop and maintain skills matrix - including all relevant training requirements. Ensuring that key production skills are covered through training and enough partners trained in key areas.

  • Lead the team in a professional, open, firm yet positive manner, displaying consistency, honesty and integrity at all times

  • Responsibility for clear and timely communications on shift changes to partners. Allowing partners the time to accommodate but mindful of business needs

  • Ensure that recruitment and employment policies are applied in all aspects of the department's day to day operation. Ensuring that discipline is applied in a fair and consistent manner within the department.

  • Assist with investigation, disciplinary and grievance hearings both within your department and externally to ensure a consistent and fair approach throughout the business.

  • Contribute to the Learning and Development Strategy in relation to the development of partners to enable them to meet targets

  • Support the company 'succession planning' in identifying and supporting the development of partners

  • Ensure that all new partners are inducted and supported into the department effectively, paying particular attention to Health & Safety / Hygiene requirements

  • Contribute to the Learning and Development Strategy in relation to the development of partners to enable them to meet targets,

  • Support the company 'engagement' strategy, working with the Partnership Council in creating a great place to work

  • Ensure Manufacturing Line Leads are suitably trained and experienced to deliver relevant training to wider production teams

  • To communicate effectively with a wide range of partners across the business

  • Take accountability of your own personal development

  • Demonstrate and promote the company's values, leading by example

  • Provide information for and co-operate with auditors and inspectors
