Lead Electrical Engineer - Reading/Hybrid

Our client are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer as part of their growing EPC team. A critical role within the Engineering team, the Lead Electrical Engineer will be a technical authority for electrical activities across solar PV projects. They will provide the required leadership of the electrical engineering team with governance and assurance on electrical design, system integration and electrical safety considering relevant industry standards and regulations.

Key Accountabilites & Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of specifications and designs of electrical systems, in accordance with relevant ISO/ IEC/BS standards, including IET CoP, BS7671 18th Edition etc.

  • Appointing/vetting electrical design consultants.

  • Leading the MV/LV electrical equipment review, specification, selection, and design (including UPS, cables, metering, CTs, switchgear, transformers, inverters, inverter string configuration etc).

  • Liaison with DNOs, ICPS, and electrical equipment manufacturers, technical advisors, and consultants.

  • Power system studies and earthing system design and review.

  • Issuing of commissioning and operational documentation e.g., commissioning procedures, energisation procedures, emergency shutdown procedures, etc.

  • Guidance for the electrical and connections engineering team in interpretation of relevant ISO/IEC/BS standards and documentation for EPC designs e.g.: Transformer Oil bunding requirements, E-Stop designs etc.

  • Ensuring system designs are in accordance with ENA requirements, DNO/TSO requirements, as well as distribution and transmission practices.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Leading groups of engineers in development of electrical system designs and power systems studies.

  • Proficient in electrical systems design, including electrical power distribution systems and renewable connections.

  • Understanding of P28, G99 and similar ENA recommendations and the design/implementation of solutions to meet these requirements.

  • Familiarity with Amtech or similar electrical design packages to assist with cable sizing and/or protection settings and schemes and optimisation.

  • Familiar and experienced with key UK Market Operators, guidelines, regulations, rules, requirements and criteria as applicable to grid interconnection, performance and planning, especially related to bulk power systems.

  • Experienced user of the following software, AutoCAD, MSOffice (particularly Excel for data analytics), Outlook, SharePoint.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in electrical engineering.

  • Chartered status with a recognised electrical professional institute

  • Experience of professional electrical system design experience at commercial / utility-scale.

  • Proficient in software tools such as DIgSILEN,T PowerFactory, and PSCAD with a particular focus on the detailed modelling of renewable power sources and carrying out AC and HVDC studies.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience of leading technical project teams in delivery of electrical power systems.

  • Experience in grid scale PV and BESS

  • Demonstrable knowledge of inverter specification, array sizing, yield optimization, module selection and component assessments
