Location: Durham, NC

Contract Length: 6 months

Pay Rate: $22 (with healthcare benefits)

Laboratory Assistant - Molecular Biology

Purpose:

  • Function as a team member and support molecular analysis efforts defined by supervisor
  • Contribute to implementation of fit-for-purpose molecular analysis, and effectively evaluate, implement, and drive results
  • Communicate progress and results with function teams and projects in a timely fashion

Duties:

  • Follow instructions and pre-established SOPs to perform the functions of the job
  • Conduct molecular analysis experiments, including DNA/RNA qualification and quantitation, primer design, PCR, gel electrophoresis, amplicon QC and purification, preparation for Sanger sequencing or next generation sequencing, vector construction, and other lab work related to team delivery
  • Perform tasks and deliver results within timelines and with good quality
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and strong trouble-shooting skills to daily work
  • Efficiently and accurately process, summarize, interpret and report analysis data
  • Maintain clear and accurate experimental records with outstanding attention to details
  • Perform all activities in accordance with the Syngenta Health, Safety, and Environmental policy

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

  • BS or MS degree in an area of biology with knowledge of genetics and / or molecular biology
  • Basic lab experience / lab training in biology related field
  • Knowledge and experience with PCR, qPCR and RT-PCR
  • Experience with high-throughput DNA/RNA extraction
  • Basic cloning / vector construction knowledge and experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation / robotics is preferred
  • Proficient use of MS office and familiarity with software for molecular analysis
