Hydraulic Instrument Technicians

Location - Norwich (Lodging allowance paid)

Rate of pay - Umbrella rate £335 per day (10 hour day) plus lodging allowance

Duration - 3 months

Our client is a manufacturing and testing company seeking Hydraulic Technicians with experience in HPU's, WHCP's, TUTU's, IWOCS and CI packages. This role will be based in their workshop.

Key skills:

  • Identification and installation of hydraulic components.
  • Reading and understanding P&ID schematic drawings, General Assembly drawings, Parts Lists and Test Procedures (Flushing, Pressure Testing, Leak Testing, Functional Acceptance (FAT) work.
  • Experience of working with Instrument Tubing and the make-up and assembly of Twin Ferrule systems including Swagelok, Parker and Gyrolok/Hoke. Cutting, deburring, bending, correct pulling on/setting of ferrules. Assembly of these types of tube systems into valves.
  • Pressure testing of small bore tube work ranging from ¼'' to 1'' & equivalent metric systems, also pipe work hydrostatic testing. Ensuring safe systems of work with pressures of up to 40000 psi.
  • Flushing of Hydraulic systems and cleanliness sampling to ensure compliance with prescribed cleanliness levels. Familiarity with SAE AS 4059 class 6B-F (AS598 or ISO4407) particle counting systems and NAS 1638 Class 6 comparator systems. Ideally familiar with PAMAS particle counting equipment.

Education/Qualifications desired:



Mechanical Craft Apprenticeship or similar qualification e.g. level 3 NVQ Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering - Fitting and Assembly with relevant units for Hydraulic Instrument systems. I.e. QCA Codes:

  • A/601/5013 Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements.
  • Y/601/5102 Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation.
  • K/601/5055 Working efficiently and effectively in engineering.
  • H/600/5480 Fitting fluid power components to mechanical assemblies.
  • F/600/5485 Fitting pipework systems to mechanical assemblies.
  • L/600/5537 Checking that completed assemblies comply with specification.
  • Y/600/5542 Pipe bending and forming by hand methods.
  • Swagelok, Parker ALOK compression fittings & Hoke Twin Ferrule systems training with certification.
  • Autoclave or Butech systems training with certification.
  • ecITB Technical competence certificate of achievement in Installing and Assembling Small Bore Tubing (SBT) Assemblies - Code TSBT01.
  • ecITB Technical competence certificate of achievement in Disassembling and Reinstalling SBT Systems - Code TSBT02.
