Job description

Our client has a current opportunity for Health & Safety Manager to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis, based in Inverness.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Health & Safety Manager is not only responsible for developing and managing the safety systems on site, but also actively promoting a positive health & safety culture within the workforce.

Main Duties

  • Evolving the existing Safety management system to cover the needs of the site, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

  • Dominant lead on Safety Star Programme for site.

  • Providing specialist knowledge and support in Health & Safety to site personnel.

  • Developing and co-ordinating delivery of the Safety training programme.

  • Working with the other sites to share best practise, implement the safety vision and achieve/deliver the aims and objectives of the Company's Health & Safety Policies.

  • Assist in developing systems which promote personal ownership of Safety.

  • Developing a Process Safety Management System and promoting a perfect Process Safety Performance culture on site.

  • High-Risk Employee Management Leader.

  • High-Risk Scenario training leader.

  • Completion of Hazard and Operability Studies on critical processes and all new investments/significant changes.

  • Safety Steering Committee Owner - providing clear direction for leaders and all safety sub-committees.

  • Management of Change Owner for Personal and Process Safety

  • Ensuring minimisation of exposure to workplace hazards.

  • Employee focused Health & Safety Management.

  • Continuously striving to achieve 100% compliance with hazard specific safety expectations.

  • Site demonstration of an interdependent and accountable safety culture.

  • Consistent and obvious encouragement of safe behaviours.

  • Continuous Personal Safety Improvement.

  • Continuous Process Safety Improvement.

  • Direct involvement with employees at their work area, including knowledge of the hazards associated with each task being performed on site.

  • Compiling Safety reports (weekly/monthly) and distributing to all employees.

  • Compile Leading indicators and sharing with employees.

  • Incident/Accident Investigation if required.

  • Ensuring all safety spreadsheets are kept up to date.

  • Analysing safety data to determine preventive measures.

  • Boots on the ground auditing permit to work during maintenance days and process running.

  • Risk assessment/SSoW reviews and advising as required.

  • Liaise with enforcement agencies and legal representatives in matters of Health & Safety compliance and litigation.

  • Give overview on H&S at communication days.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety role.

  • A Level/Higher education level or equivalent.

  • Qualifications in Health and Safety studies (NEBOSH or equivalent).

  • Thorough understanding of Safety Regulations.

  • IT Skills (Microsoft Office).

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • A site fanatic personal safety employee.

  • Be a detail-oriented person who can manage work in progress.

  • Have good interpersonal skills to allow appropriate on-site interaction.

  • Have good time management skills to concentrate efforts on the more important priorities.

  • Good mediating and negotiating skills.
