Job description

We have a current opportunity for a GIS Specialist on a long term contract basis outside of IR35. The position will be based in Edinburgh/Aberdeen/ Sunbury/London (CANDIDATE's choice).

The Geospatial Specialist will provide technical GIS information, data management, analytics and visualization support to our Integrated Energy customer. You will work closely and exclusively with multiple offshore wind projects, taking them through the DCO process, engineering and construction phases. A preferred candidate will be expected to have familiarity with either the UK (Crown Estate or ScotWind) and/or other country specific development consenting processes for wind projects.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Act as the lead for geospatial activities within a wind project.

  • Plan, coordinate and manage geospatial resources and support across the project.

  • Develop innovative solutions and procedures and promote best practice to improve efficiency and quality within the geospatial team and across projects.

  • Review all scopes of work and method statements for third party suppliers where a geospatial deliverable will be required.

Some experience of below listed technical ability is expected but not all:

  • Adhering to the Geospatial standards for internal/external data and the risk of incorporating this data onto maps and data repositories. Promoting naming conventions, industry standard acronyms, codes, units of measure & symbols. Recognizing, fixing errors & inconsistences in data and fundamental workflows while managing implications of moving data and maps for avoiding data connection issues in the management of Geospatial Data.

  • The structure of various Geospatial data formats (shape file, geodatabase, raster, tabular, tin, etc.), and how to edit data in SDE Geodatabases. Know how and when to apply datum transformations, recognize, trouble-shoot and repair coordinate reference systems issues in existing datasets and how to determine which geodetic parameters were likely used for historic datasets

  • Import/export of data between ArcGIS and other applications, including using FME and related tools. Developing tools for data import/export of geospatial data where needed, being cognizant of the tools that already exist.

  • You have some familiarity with data-related technologies/languages (e.g. FME, Python, R, ElasticSearch, JavaScript, etc.).
