Location: Malta, IL

Contract Length: 12-months

Pay: $18 (with benefits)

Genotyping Lab Assistant

Duties:

  • Process leaf and seed tests. Prepare them for DNA extraction. Electronic and physical steps.
  • Add chemical buffers to test sample plates with equipment and/or pipettes
  • Operate sample grinders, centrifuges, liquid handling machines, and freeze dryer.
  • Operate all equipment associated with PCR and Sequencing to obtain high quality results
  • Complete scheduled tests within necessary amount of time and keep all sample plates organized.
  • Train the contract staff.
  • Work as a team to meet deadlines.
  • Prioritize tasks for the lab in order to meet deadlines.
  • Backup other full-time employees when they are out of office.
  • Shipping and receiving tasks. Sign paperwork from shipping couriers. Track shipments. Unloading consumables (sample plates, tips for machines, chemicals, etc.) from pallets and moving them into lab spaces. Un-packaging consumables from boxes.
  • Discarding of completed seed material and extracted DNA.
  • Keep laboratory clean.
  • Accountable for quality and speed of lab work completed each day
  • Update task tracking tools online in a timely manner.
  • Collaboratively analyze and troubleshoot data quality issues.
  • Understanding of proper experimental design.
  • Communicate and implement process improvement ideas.
  • Learn the background of our genetic testing and understand internal and end customer.
  • Participate in meetings and share relevant information with others.
  • Work safely by following all PPE requirements and use proper ergonomics.
  • Maintain test sample identity throughout entire process. Attention to detail required.
  • Use Visual Management Board to help communicate priorities to the lab employees.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

  • BS or equivalent experience required
  • Lab experience is a must
  • Ability to follow scientific protocols
  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Experience working with lab equipment.

  • Knowledge of computer research and analysis programs.
