Job description

Contract Length: 18-months

Location: Reading (on site 3 days per week)

IR35: In Scope

Core Day to Day Duties:

  • A lot of shortfall fixes
  • A 'doer'
  • Reviews of safety
  • Risk management
  • Hazard IDs
  • Mitigate
  • Justification
  • Fixes
  • Updates to maintenance
  • Deep dive into what is happening
  • Documentation
  • Initial risk assessments
  • Progress meetings
  • Updates
  • Shortfall actions
  • Reviewing shortfalls
  • Facility visits (may occasionally include other site)
  • Follow due process

Key part of role:

  • Safety Cases
  • Documents covering risk assessment for a facility. Figure out what to do to make it better
  • Nuclear background may have something similar; safety reviews, hazardous reviews

Minimum Requirement:

  • HNC with suitable additional experience to Incorporated Engineer equivalent level
  • There is no preference regarding their field of engineering… Mechanical, Electrical, C&I, Civil, all ok, we are looking across all fields, as long as there is an engineering background
  • Engineering background
  • Nuclear background/experience highly desirable
  • RAF/Defence background may provide transferable skills
  • Membership of an engineering institution
  • A 'doer' rather than a manager
  • Understand what a safety case is:
  • Safety case is a key phrase. Equivalents from other companies may be safety reviews, risk management on hazardous situations.
  • Good screening question "What's your safety case experience".
  • Technical rather than management bias
  • Maintenance experience
  • Shortfall fixes/breakdown assessments
  • On call breakdown checks
  • Substantiation
  • Compliance assessments
