Job description

We at Orion Group are currently recruiting a Design Coordinator (E&D Lead) on behalf of one of our Multinational Medical Device Clients in Limerick to work on a 12-month contract.

Overview

  • Person is required to lead the design aspects of Medical Device Projects.
  • The projects are of significant size currently 200m
  • Responsible for coordinating capital project related engineering and design activities in alignment with business objectives and Project Delivery Practices.
  • Focused on execution of the implementation phase of Concept (CP), BOD, and Construction Documents (CD) (Detailed Design) once Business Case and Project Scoping phases have been completed by others.
  • Focuses on co-ordination of AE firm, co-ordination of design, execution of SDPs (Standard Design Practices), VIPs (Value Improving Processes), Sustainability (LEED), and other corporate policies.
  • This includes coordinating the efforts of technical team members and third-party design firms or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.
  • Reports to Managed Service Provider or Secondment Company and functions within the Engineering and Property Services group, works on completing business focused goals and objectives.

Education & Experience

  • Requires proficiency in project/design management and experience working on Utility & Facility design projects,
  • Ensures that programs stay on plan by working with project team to resolve resource conflicts and removing obstacles.
  • Uses appropriate metrics for engineering performance and sets up plans are to provide continuous improvement.
  • Implement standards and efficient work practices for group processes.
  • Provides local guidance on technology and engineering issues to project teams.
  • Complies with all training requirements to perform duties of the job.
  • Meets all mobility demands to perform duties and/or fulfil responsibilities of the job.

Job Specific Requirements

  • Works with appointed Design firms to utilise effective design methods.
  • Leads the front end design process including all aspects of design (Arch, Mech, Elec, Process, Automation, etc).
  • Prepares Request for Proposal (RFP) for Architect/Engineer (A/E) services and Lead A/E interviews/selection and on-boarding process
  • Works with the Regional E&D Director, Project Dir./Project Mgr. to manage the performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary
  • Provides leadership and directs the design for projects. The E&D Lead must:
  • Assure use of Value Improving Practices (VIPs) such as Value Engineering, Constructability Reviews.
  • Assure the appropriate standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, …) are incorporated to deliver compliant and efficient project designs
  • Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs including other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.
  • Assure that the Standard Design Platforms are deployed on all projects. Setup project specific training for internal and external SMEs.
  • Assure that projects meet the Sustainability policy and drive the certification process.
  • Utilise the IDEA project Delivery Process
  • Lead effort to resolve key design conflicts in construction and commissioning phase with appropriate SMEs and leads the final close-out with the A/E firm including executing Lessons Learned process.
