Job description

Our client is seeking a Cost & Estimating Engineer, as part of their growing Project Services team. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing, managing and reporting the cost of a project, ensuring that it stays within budget and on schedule and that any deviations from plan are quickly and clearly reported, whilst also preparing cost breakdowns and detailed proposals, cost benchmarking and forecasting, as part of the whole projects team.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Control

  • Monitoring and analysing costs
  • Cooperating and interfacing with project managers to help them meet budgeting goals
  • Writing reports and presenting information to key stakeholders
  • developing and adjusting budgets
  • Researching to find opportunities to reduce expenses
  • Evaluating project requirements to provide vital resources, including financial and human resources
  • Collaborating with project managers to create effective budgets
  • Calculating the variance between the budgeting plan and reality
  • Investigating unprofitable variances and losses
  • Developing cost-efficient solutions to implement changes

Cost Estimator

  • Researching the cost of items such as materials, transport, labour and equipment
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors along with colleagues in the Supply Chain Management team
  • Assessing the risk levels associated with a project
  • Collaborating with engineers, clients and contractors
  • Calculate, analyse and modelling cost estimates
  • Recommend ways to reduce costs
  • Preparing and submitting quotations and details of costs for work to be done
  • Monitoring the costs at the different stages of a project to ensure it stays within the estimated costs
  • Maintain detailed and comprehensive records of estimated and actual costs

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum HNC requirement in a technical discipline i.e Engineering / Cost /Project Controls
  • Relevant experience in the Energy, Utilities, Construction sector
  • Renewable energyexperience is advantageous
  • Experience with MS Project and Power BI
  • Proven technical proficiency and experience in the field of cost control and estimating
