Control System Package Engineer (OUTSIDE IR35)


Our client, one of the worlds leading engineering companies is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Control System Package Engineer to join the team on a 4-month contract basis for a exciting Plastics Pyrolysis Project.

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful design and implementation of control systems for the project.

You will be responsible for reviewing and approving control systems from package vendors, creating specifications for instruments, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.

This is a short-term (4-month) contract with an immediate start (june 2024)
There is strong possibility of future opportunities on new projects for the right candidate.

The role will be based in Leatherhead office, with the possibility of a hybrid working arrangement (2 days remote).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, review, and approve control systems from package vendors, ensuring alignment with plant control systems.
  • Create specifications for individual components and instruments, coordinating with suppliers to ensure functionality.
  • Review and approve package technical drawings & validate them from Instrument and Controls perspective.
  • Identify and collaborate with third-party system integrators as needed.
  • Assist with the design development of DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems for the project.
  • Work with end users and OEMs to ensure alignment with project specifications and requirements.
  • Perform automation-related tasks, including creating I/O lists, instrumentation lists, and specifying instrumentation and control elements.
  • Confirm that package instruments comply with safety recommendations such as SIL, LOPA, and HAZOP.
  • Possess a working knowledge of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
  • Contribute to the development of design deliverables.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Control System Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of control system design principles and best practices.
  • Experience with DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems.
  • Expertise in design details, engineering practices, and international codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with project teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in the use of relevant engineering software.
