Job description

The Structural Engineer is responsible for providing integrity management & technical support for all fixed, floating, and topside structures. The role involves working closely with colleagues in Maintenance, Production and HSE teams to deliver company and regulatory objectives for the management of integrity of all fixed, floating structures and associated equipment.

The Structural Engineer will be heavily involved with supporting the decommissioning and repurposing of the assets to support the Hynet CCS project, working with the operations and project team during its development

The Structural Engineer shall act as the technical authority and provide integrity engineering support for operating sites and will be responsible as the "System Custodian" for the Safety Critical Systems in his/her field of technical expertise as designated in the Asset System Custodian Listing.

The Structural Engineer will assist in the integrity management of all area fixed & floating structures and also support integrity of fixed equipment, including pressure systems (piping and vessels) and tanks. The role also involves operational support, particularly failure investigations, repair specifications and Management of Change (MOC) activities.

Play an active role in the Management of Change Process, other technical reviews, assessments and execution as required, including support for Decommissioning and future CCS activities. The role will require close liaison with the Operations teams onshore and offshore, and the Project Teams for HyNet CCS and LBA Decommissioning.

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical authority (System Custodian) for Structures and prepares monthly and annual system custodian reports
  • Responsible for all structural integrity management activities (updating the RAs, executing inspections, results review, remediation, etc)
  • Produce any required submission to the Verification body and UK regulators. Liaison and attend meetings with Regulators and executing any follow up actions if required
  • Collate and review Results from all Structural related activities (maintenance, tests, repairs, etc) performed. Review of inspection reports requiring remedial works and specification of repair
  • Management of key vendors who support structural, NDT contractor (both Offshore and Onshore) covering Fixed Jackets, topsides structures, Oil Storage Facility (Barge style hull), Calram Buoy and the mooring system
  • Ensure all legislative requirements for the fixed structures and floating structures are incorporated into the integrity strategy (jacket, hull internal and UWILD etc.)
  • Keep current the integrity plan for structures systems including the marine requirements of the classification society and associated rules
  • Develop budget estimates for planned structural inspections
  • Liaise with the planning dept. to ensure all structural inspections are toll gate approved and they are included within the overall field planning.
  • Participate in Shutdown planning and supervise Integrity inspection issue resolution during shutdowns
  • Structural anomalies assessment / management. Fitness for Purpose assessments as required
  • Review of Structural related failures and progression of failure investigations and root cause analyses, with support from internal or external specialists as necessary
  • Accountable for engineering, execution and progression of Management of Change (MOC) projects in accordance with company MOC procedures.
  • Participate in Shutdown planning and supervise Integrity inspection issue resolution during shutdowns
  • Keep current the process equipment integrity strategy. Employ best industry practices inclusive of Risk Based Methodologies and specify the selection of most effective inspection techniques / methods
  • Attendance at operating sites when first-hand review of equipment integrity issues is required
  • Periodic review and update to critical documents such as WSE's, Emergency Response Manuals, Performance Standards
  • Accountable for performance of contracts for which s/he is Contract Sponsor
  • Coordinate required inspections (ROV, RAT etc) for structures. Determine best methods for inspections (Diving / ROV / Side Scan Sonar etc.) and plan / organize accordingly. Work closely with pipelines engineer to ensure any subsurface inspections of pipelines are included as part of the integrated subsurface inspection plan
  • Manage the Corrosion Protection System (CP) for fixed structures, jack-up legs, hulls and moorings
  • Develop manage and maintain the weight control for all facilities
  • Monitor the integrity of the subsurface and topside coatings systems. Liaise with FM coordinator to ensure that all FM requirements are prioritized and included in the field wide FM plan
  • Manage the structural models for both fixed and floating systems. Organize updates to the models as modifications or loadings change to assess consequences of any changes Review inspection results for both above water and in water surveys
  • Work closely with HQ Operations department for resolution technical issues as identified
  • Provide specialist engineering guidance and professional judgment in support of operations, maintenance and reliability projects
  • Participate in HAZAN/HAZID/HAZOP/Design Reviews and action status systems
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant international technical standards, codes and recommended practices, interpretations and analogues to assist in the operation and development of clients facilities.
  • Develop core in-house Integrity Engineering skills and abilities to foster career growth and development
