Celebrating a love for baking, sweet toothed staff at Orion Group’s HQ organised a Great Orion Charity Bake Off competition to raise funds for the Highland Hospice
with judging from the famous Highland bakers, Harry Gow.
Managing Director, David Gow judged the quality of the staff’s homemade cakes at Orion’s in-house Café at HQ. With over 12 departmental entries of cakes, the competition was extremely competitive amongst colleagues.
Highland Hospice Corporate Fundraiser, Lisa Long said: “Having a Great Orion Bake Off is such a novel idea and a great way to raise funds for the charity – everyone loves cakes and we’re thrilled Harry Gow was able to offer their expertise and support to the Orion bakers.
Harry Gow, who has over 60 years in the trade and was crowned first ever Scottish Baker of the year in 2012 commented:
“I’m pleased that the Orion Group staff has organised a friendly competition for a worthy cause. I want to encourage more competitions locally amongst keen amateur bakers. The level of baking was outstanding and some of the creativeness and effort was just exceptional.”
Competition was strong and our local celebrity judges took no prisoners. Winner of best cake went to the Projects Department.
Enthusiastic baker, Gabriela Cabaj, was nominated by her team to represent the department with a spectacular Chocolate and Hazelnut cake. Gaby told us, “This is my ultimate hobby, I’ve done lots of baking in preparation for today, and I am so glad that we managed to raise money for a local charity in addition to winning the trophy and taking home this year’s Bake Off bragging rights.”
The Great Orion Bake Off raised over £350 for the Highland Hospice.
