The main responsibility of a production engineer is managing the production of hydrocarbons from wells and facilities. As part of their role, they must optimise production processes, troubleshoot any issues, and monitor reservoir flows and design systems so materials can be effectively extracted, and outputs can be maximised.

Facilities engineers focus on the design, construction, and maintenance of oil and gas production and processing facilities, including processing plants, pipelines, and offshore platforms. They must ensure that all facilities are safe, efficient, and capable of handling the extraction and processing of hydrocarbons.

A completions engineer focuses on the competition of wells, including the design and installation of downhole equipment and systems, to maximise the productivity and longevity of oil and gas wells. They will also determine the best completion techniques for each well and oversee the execution of these strategies.
