cHeRries Awards 2021

Coming together to celebrate HR’s Brightest Stars

We’re sure we were not alone in being disappointed to see last June’s prestigious cHeRries Awards go the way of so many 2020 events by being postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Aberdeen-based national awards ceremony, which recognises excellence in the fields of human resources, training and recruitment, is a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to celebrate the leading HR professionals in the field.

Undeterred though, the organisers announced in January that they would be hosting the inaugural Virtual cHeRries Conference, Networking event and Exhibition on February 4, 2021. It is perhaps appropriate that the event’s themes will be recover, reflect and reset, looking at the successes achieved as we weather the storm and examine what we can learn from one of the most challenging years the industry has ever faced - as well as how to bounce back.

The popular awards evening will follow (again in online format) exactly a month later on March 4, 2021, with Orion Group delighted to be sponsoring the 'Tremendous Learning and Development' award. The accolade, which will be awarded by a panel of judges comprising leading figures in the HR and talent acquisition industry. The award will be presented to a deserving HR adviser who in the past 12 months has gained respect from their client base by ensuring high visibility and contact while proactively delivering a high standard of HR service and solutions.

Nominees for the award were required to demonstrate that they had carried out their duties or initiatives beyond expectations, contributing to the success of their team and the organisation. They must also have committed to their continuing professional development in order to apply and adapt best practice to suit the needs of their clients.

Speaking about Orion’s sponsorship of the award, Group HR Director, Ross MacRae, commented: “Orion are delighted to continue their association with the cHeRries through sponsoring the 'Tremendous Learning and Development' award. Exceeding expectations through skills application and endeavour demonstrates the value that HR provides.”

Regional Director, Steven Greig, who will present the award on the night said: “The Orion Group are delighted to continue our long-established support of the cHeRries Event.

The 'Tremendous Learning and Development' award is of particular significance viewed against the backdrop of the pandemic, which saw human resources professionals adapting how they delivered training and professional development. Indeed, by playing a leading role in response to the global crisis - which has affected every industry, requiring agencies to think on their feet to help clients navigate an ever-changing business landscape - HR has demonstrated how invaluable it is to organisations.

“Since the inception of The cHeRries, the awards have represented the importance of the HR function within all organisations operating across multiple business sectors. This year’s event is even more important to recognise these talented individuals and teams as all aspects of industry look to recover and move forward positively from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.”
