Job description

We have a fantastic contract opportunity for a CSU Support - Process Control Specialist to join a world class team and their historical project, based on-site in the Central West of British Columbia. This is an exciting time to be part of this project as it enters' it's pre-commissioning phase of the project.

The purpose of the CSU Support - Process Control Specialist is to support process control and safeguarding functionality for safe, reliable and efficient operation of our client's facilities in Commissioning and Start-up phases allowing to further fully sustain in the Operate phase. This includes - controller performance improvement, tuning and systematic plant troubleshooting.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support operations and other interfaces on control and safeguarding schemes whenever needed.
  • Support process control activities such as Online modifications (Tuning, configuration changes etc.), Trip investigation & trouble shooting, Alarm management support (setting and priority change), static & state base suppression logic groups fixing e.g., adding additional tags, to minimize alarm flooding etc., DCS HMI corrections, creating trend groups, PI tag creation, Controller performance monitoring for handed over systems, Compressor surge testing and start up support, Changing protective controller set points.
  • Support Process Control Technical Authorities in functional and detailed design, development, testing, safe and smooth implementation of MOC's with process control and safeguarding scope as needed.
  • Proactively get involved in the CSU and ramp up related activities while being an active member of ADT (Asset Delivery Team) when asked.
  • Deliver process control aspects of our client in accordance with project HSE, technical standards, quality standards and procedures as defined in Contract and Project Specification, during design, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Optimize processes via all the techniques to improve controller performance.
  • Review the process control content of plant modifications/changes as well as instrument trip/alarm settings such that plant integrity remains ensured and design objectives are met.
  • Ensure documents, i.e. control and IPF narratives, system functional design specifications, etc., are maintained and as-built comments are accurately kept.
  • Participate in required HSE activities (audits, meetings, etc.) and demonstrate (by example) safe work practices and procedures to the contractors at all times.
  • Support the implementation of control and safeguarding functionality in DCS, SGS and FGS systems.

To be successful, you will have:

  • University degree or equivalent in Control Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical engineering, Applied Physics or Mathematics and 5+ years of relevant industry experience with demonstrated process control skills and relevant competencies.
  • Participated in process control projects and process control CSU activities
  • 2+ years of Yokogawa Centum VP and Yokogawa ProSafe experience.
  • Wider appreciation of Gas/LNG business processes and principles and experience in a Gas/LNG Major Project is an advantage.
  • Ability to contribute to decision support and assurance as well as organizing and/or carrying out hands on technical evaluations.
  • Sound systematic approach to technical and multi-disciplinary challenges. Strong analytical abilities having knowledge of engineering tools and simulations etc.
  • Able to integrate projects and initiatives while managing inter-cultural sensitivities and leveraging D&I. Communicate with internal and external interfaces with strong spoken and written communication skills.

This role requires that you:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live and work in beautiful Kitimat, BC.
  • May need to be extended to 12-hour day/night shift during critical start-up activities during CSU.
