In Qatar the oil and gas industry is responsible for a large amount of the state’s revenue – giving it one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. It is particularly focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and it has become a leading exporter of and is the fourth largest dry natural gas producer globally. It also exports crude oil and petroleum products. The economy is one of the fastest-growing in the world and, unsurprisingly, this means that there are lots of opportunities in a number of very different roles, such as geology, engineering and operations in addition to locations such as Doha.
Operations are clustered around several main oil fields, offshore and in the largest gas field in the world, the Qatari South Pars project. The area in which this project is located is rich in supply and, consequently, there are many opportunities available – for both contractors and permanent candidates. Typical roles include performance management, lead process engineering, technical HSE management, equipment engineering, team leading and offshore supervising. Some jobs can be very competitive – prior experience in the Middle East can be very beneficial but is not typically required.
