Azerbaijan’s ancient capital Baku is has been linked with oil for centuries. It is the largest city on the coast of the Caspian Sea and is therefore in the perfect place for enabling access to the largely-untapped reserves found there. The oil and gas industry in Azerbaijan is mostly focused in the city as this is where the major companies base their headquarters. It was home to the world’s first offshore oil platform and its undeniable the way that the industry has shaped the city. In the last decade in particular, it has been transformed rapidly by oil revenues – this is reflected by the variety of roles available there, such as agricultural consultants, technicians, welding inspectors, construction workers. The majority of vacancies are for contractors although there are some permanent roles.
