We are currently seeking an experienced Workover Rig Superintendent to support a major greenfield oil development located in western Uganda.
This is a high-profile onshore development involving over 400 wells, ESP artificial lift systems, and complex production infrastructure in a remote and environmentally sensitive area.

Project Context

The  field represents one of the largest onshore drilling and completion campaigns in East Africa, including:
  • ~200 oil producer wells
  • ~200 water injector wells
  • 200,000 bopd production capacity
  • Extensive temperature-preserved flowline network
  • Heavy and waxy crude production
  • Continuous ESP replacement program (~90% of WO scope)
  • Three drilling rigs and two workover rigs operating from first oil
The project operates in a multicultural and highly regulated environment under Ugandan legislation and international onshore oil & gas codes.

Role Purpose

The Workover Rig Superintendent (WOSI 1) is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of workover rig operations, ensuring compliance with company HSE standards and optimizing operational performance and cost.
As a key member of the Chain of Command, the Superintendent acts as the direct interface between field operations and drilling & wells management in town.
Key Responsibilities HSE Leadership
  • Demonstrate strong HSE leadership and promote high HSEQ standards at all times.
  • Participate actively in Site Committee Meetings.
  • Contribute to Technological Risk Assessments, Bridging Documents, and BOCP updates.
  • Ensure safe startup of new-build workover rigs.
  • Promote environmental impact reduction initiatives.
Preparation of Operations
  • Advise Engineering teams during preparation of operational programs.
  • Review and challenge well programs.
  • Participate in CWOP and Pre-Spud meetings.
  • Coordinate COMOPS / SIMOPS preparation.
  • Propose operational optimizations and digital/technological improvements.
  • Validate End of Well reports and integrate REX & WOIP learnings.
Operations Follow-Up
  • Oversee and optimize day-to-day workover rig operations.
  • Support site supervision and update operational instructions.
  • Coordinate logistics, fluids, well construction, and third-party services.
  • Ensure timely delivery of equipment and contingencies.
  • Participate in Chain of Command decision-making and escalate issues when required.
  • Take critical decisions regarding well control and safety.
Accountabilities
  • Guarantee safe and compliant execution of workover operations.
  • Supervise 6–8 direct reports on site.
  • Oversee all operational-related contractors.
  • Act as first point of contact for planning and execution of associated services.
  • Support and advise senior workover supervisors.
Qualifications
  • BSc Degree, Diploma, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Valid IWCF Level 4 (Combined Surface & Subsea) – mandatory.
  • Chain of Command (COC) Certificate – Superintendent level (mandatory).
  • T-BOP certification (mandatory).
  • Fluent in English.
Experience
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in Oil & Gas.
  • Previous assignments as Workover Site Supervisor (WSSV) and Workover Superintendent (WSI).
  • Strong experience in ESP replacement operations.
  • Experience in remote, logistically complex, or environmentally sensitive projects is highly desirable.
