Welding Engineer

We are currently looking for a Welding Engineer based locally in Cairo with previous offshore experience.
Role Purpose
The Welding Engineer will be responsible for providing specialist welding engineering support to offshore and oil & gas projects, with particular emphasis on mechanized and automated welding using the GMAW process.
The role will support welding activities from technical planning and procedure development through qualification, implementation and execution, ensuring welding operations are performed in accordance with applicable project specifications, quality requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical welding engineering support for project, fabrication and offshore welding activities.
• Support the development, qualification, implementation and maintenance of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and associated Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
• Provide technical expertise for mechanized and automated GMAW welding processes.
• Review project welding requirements, specifications and applicable codes and standards.
• Support welding procedure qualification activities, including preparation, testing, documentation and technical evaluation.
• Provide technical guidance on welding parameters, consumables, joint configurations, materials and welding sequences.
• Support the selection and optimization of welding processes and equipment for project requirements.
• Assist with setup, qualification and deployment of mechanized/automated welding systems.
• Troubleshoot welding-related technical issues and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor welding performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, weld quality and process reliability.
• Liaise with project engineering, production, fabrication, QA/QC, inspection and operations teams on welding-related matters.
• Provide technical support during weld inspections, testing and resolution of welding quality issues.
• Participate in the investigation of weld defects and failures and support root-cause analysis where required.
• Ensure welding activities comply with approved procedures, project requirements and relevant industry standards.
• Support welding trials and technical evaluations for new equipment, consumables, processes or applications.
• Provide technical guidance and support to welding supervisors, technicians, operators and welders.
• Prepare and maintain welding engineering documentation and technical reports.
• Provide welding engineering support at offshore locations when required.

Qualifications
Essential

• International Welding Engineer (IWE) Diploma.
• Relevant engineering or technical qualification in Welding, Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical Engineering or a related discipline, where applicable.

Experience & Technical Requirements
The successful candidate should have:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in welding engineering.
• Experience within the oil & gas industry is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience with mechanized and/or automated welding systems.
• Strong practical experience with the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process.
• Previous offshore experience is mandatory.
• Knowledge of welding procedures, procedure qualification and welding-related technical documentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot welding process and quality issues in fabrication/site environments.
• Familiarity with relevant welding codes, standards and project specifications.
• Understanding of welding quality control, inspection and testing requirements.
• Experience supporting welding operations in demanding project, fabrication or offshore environments.
