Project Manager / Senior Engineer – Water & Wastewater
Location: Peoria, Illinois (Hybrid / On-site)
Travel: ~5 days per month

Orion Group is proud to be exclusively partnered with a well-established engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Project Manager / Engineer to join their growing Water & Wastewater team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level engineer looking to take ownership of impactful municipal and utility projects while working in a collaborative, close-knit environment that values autonomy, visibility, and career growth.

The RoleYou will lead and deliver a wide range of water and wastewater projects from concept through construction, while also supporting business development and mentoring junior staff.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing water and wastewater projects from planning through execution
  • Leading feasibility studies, design, and engineering analysis
  • Preparing proposals, scopes, and manhour estimates
  • Developing construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Supporting permitting and regulatory approvals
  • Assisting clients with funding strategies, including grants and loans
  • Overseeing construction administration and site observation
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships

Project ExposureYou’ll be involved in diverse and technically engaging work, including:
  • Water distribution systems and water main design
  • Wastewater collection systems, pump stations, and force mains
  • Water and wastewater treatment plant upgrades and new builds
  • Master planning and capital improvement programs
  • Financial planning, rate studies, and lifecycle cost analysis
  • Regulatory compliance and discharge permitting

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • 10–15+ years of consulting experience in water/wastewater
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Illinois or ability to obtain quickly)
  • Proven experience managing projects of varying complexity
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, etc.)
  • Familiarity with GIS and ArcGIS
