We are currently seeking an experienced Waste Management Coordinator to provide technical, operational and contractual oversight of waste management activities at a major LNG onshore facility in Mozambique.
The position will oversee incineration, composting, waste collection, segregation and final disposal, ensuring that contractors operate in accordance with contractual requirements, environmental permits and company standards.
This is a hands-on technical authority role. The successful candidate must have substantial experience personally operating, maintaining and troubleshooting industrial incineration systems, with the ability to independently challenge contractor diagnoses and verify the technical integrity of corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities
Contractor Management
- Exercise day-to-day technical and operational control over waste management contractors.
- Monitor contractual compliance, manpower, certifications, plant availability, response times and reporting.
- Monitor KPIs, identify deviations, raise non-conformances and verify corrective actions.
- Hold contractors accountable for technical performance and evidence-based conclusions.
- Provide independent technical oversight of industrial incineration operations and maintenance.
- Diagnose and assess combustion systems, refractory linings, burners, fuel trains, draft fans, instrumentation and pollution-control equipment.
- Review contractor fault findings, root-cause analysis and proposed corrective actions.
- Witness critical inspections and verify equipment condition against applicable standards.
- Review maintenance programmes and physically verify completed work.
- Oversee ash handling and compliant disposal.
- Supervise composting operations, including feedstock ratios, moisture and temperature profiles, aeration, pathogen reduction and curing.
- Verify finished-product quality and approved use/disposal in accordance with permits.
- Coordinate organic, mixed, metal, construction and hazardous waste streams from segregation through treatment and final disposal.
- Ensure correct waste classification, traceability and documentation.
- Maintain oversight of hazardous waste inventories and storage.
- Verify manifests, weighing records and disposal certificates.
- Ensure emissions monitoring is completed at the required frequency and within permit limits.
- Lead two Waste Management Officers covering two operational zones.
- Plan daily and weekly inspections, monitoring activities and reporting.
- Provide technical coaching and ensure accurate data collection.
- Act as Deputy to the Facilities Manager during rotation or absence.
- Produce and validate daily waste and capacity reports.
- Consolidate weekly/monthly environmental and non-compliance reporting.
- Support internal, regulatory and certification audits and provide supporting evidence.
- Enforce PTW, LOTO, hot work, confined-space and work-at-height requirements.
- Lead toolbox talks and task risk assessments.
- Participate in incident investigations, emergency response activities and drills involving fire, spills and chemical releases.
- 12–15+ years' experience in waste management facility operations, predominantly industrial or hazardous waste treatment.
- Bachelor's degree or higher diploma in Mechanical, Process, Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
- Recognised waste-management qualification such as WAMITAB, CIWM Certificate of Technical Competence or equivalent.
- Extensive hands-on experience operating, maintaining and repairing industrial incineration plants.
- Strong technical knowledge of combustion, refractory systems, burners, fuel trains, draft systems, instrumentation and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose incinerator faults and assess the technical validity of contractor findings.
- Experience managing multiple waste streams, including hazardous waste, with full traceability and manifesting.
- Experience overseeing third-party contractors and challenging technical conclusions where required.
- Working knowledge of environmental permits, waste classification and Environmental Management Systems.
- Knowledge of IFC standards.
- ISO 14001 Internal Auditor qualification would be an advantage.
- Experience working in remote, multicultural and high-activity environments.
- Strong written and spoken English; Portuguese is an advantage.
