Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced VSD Specialist to join the Maintenance team on a large-scale upstream oil & gas development project in Uganda. The role reports directly to the Lead Electrical/HVAC Engineer and will support both the project phase and operational phase of the asset.
The project represents one of the largest and most complex onshore developments currently underway, with more than 220 LV/HV Variable Speed Drives, making this a highly technical and impactful position.

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities Project Phase
- Review EPC and contractor documentation to ensure suitability for maintenance and operations
- Prepare complex VSD maintenance, testing, and LOTO procedures
- Support operating spare parts selection, procurement, and warehouse preparation
- Review and validate maintenance dossiers and CMS documentation
- Participate in FATs/SATs at vendor premises
- Support commissioning and start-up activities
- Develop digital tools for VSD health and condition monitoring
- Prepare technical scopes of work for specialise maintenance contracts
- Provide specialist technical support for VSD operation and maintenance
- Ensure VSD systems are maintained in optimal working condition
- Manage obsolescence and upgrade strategies
- Perform advanced troubleshooting (including ESP-related systems)
- Support condition-based maintenance strategies
- Coordinate vendors, contractors, and maintenance activities
- Monitor equipment performance and propose optimisation opportunities
- Ensure compliance with company rules, industry standards, and safety requirements
- Mentor and train junior electrical engineers
- Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in VSDs within the oil & gas industry
- At least 2 years on an operational plant
- Strong knowledge of international electrical codes and standards (IEC, NEC, NEMA, ATEX, API, etc.)
- Experience with CMMS systems (SAP, MAXIMO preferred)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Fluent English mandatory
