Orion Group is hiring a remote Transportation Analyst for our intravenous medical device client in CA!
The Transportation Analyst is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring domestic and international shipments across the company’s distribution network to ensure timely delivery, high customer satisfaction, and cost-effective transportation execution.
This role supports multiple transportation modes and partners closely with carriers, internal supply chain teams, and external stakeholders to resolve shipment issues, optimize routing strategies, and maintain compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, monitor, and manage shipments across multiple transportation modes, including Truckload, LTL, Drayage, Ocean, Parcel, and Air.
  • Proactively anticipate and resolve shipment disruptions caused by labor issues, weather events, or other operational challenges; communicate issues and resolutions to the Manager, Global Transportation.
  • Build, schedule, and reschedule loads while coordinating delivery appointments with dispatchers at manufacturing plants and distribution centers.
  • Manage tracking and tracing activities to ensure real-time visibility and timely communication to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support carriers and global supply chain partners by preparing and managing transportation documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOL), Shipper’s Letter of Instruction (SLI), Shipper’s Export Declaration (SED), and hazardous materials declarations.
  • Obtain and evaluate rate quotes from preferred carriers to support new transportation lanes, projects, and cost-optimization initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and timely shipment data within the Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) system, ensuring preferred carrier utilization and compliance with routing guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain carrier routing guides across manufacturing plants, distribution centers, customers, vendors, and other network nodes.
  • Investigate shipment overages, shortages, and damages; complete required documentation and file carrier claims as necessary.
  • Support carrier selection initiatives and assist with updates to preferred carrier strategies within the transportation network.
  • Assist Senior Transportation Analysts with freight data compilation, analysis, and reporting, including KPI scorecards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing transportation performance, cost, and service levels.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by leadership.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of transportation operations across LTL, Truckload, Intermodal, Parcel, Ocean, and Air modes.
  • High analytical proficiency with the ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and support fact-based decision-making.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess alternatives and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact professionally with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
 
Education & Experience
Required:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing transportation providers for temperature-controlled products
  • Working knowledge of federal and state motor carrier regulations
  • Experience using a Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred:
  • Experience in the Medical Device or Pharmaceutical industry
  • Oracle ERP and/or Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) experience
  • Exposure to cold chain and Controlled Room Temperature (CRT) transportation
  • Experience supporting hazardous materials and controlled substance shipments
 
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Primarily a sedentary position.
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment using standard office equipment.
  • Occasional travel required (0–5%).
