Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Onsite | Monday & Friday Remote
Contract Duration: Through December 31, 2027
$29-$34/hr based on benefit selection
 
Position Overview

Orion Group is seeking an experienced Trademark Paralegal to support the legal department of a leading global organization in Irvine, CA.
This position will provide hands-on support for a sophisticated trademark portfolio, working closely with attorneys, outside counsel, internal business partners, and senior-level stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of trademark prosecution experience, strong knowledge of USPTO filing requirements, and the ability to independently manage trademark documentation, searches, docket review, and correspondence.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced trademark professional who is comfortable managing multiple priorities and handling both routine and increasingly complex trademark matters with a high degree of accuracy and independence.

Top Qualifications
  • 5+ years of trademark prosecution experience, including preparing documents for submission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Hands-on experience preparing trademark applications, declarations of use, specimens, and other prosecution documents.
  • Strong ability to conduct comprehensive trademark searches, including familiarity with USPTO databases and other trademark search platforms.
  • Experience retrieving, reviewing, and analyzing trademark dockets to monitor activities and deadlines.
  • Excellent legal writing skills, including the ability to draft concise and effective communications such as cease & desist letters and correspondence with outside counsel.
Key Responsibilities

Trademark Prosecution & Portfolio Support
  • Prepare and file trademark prosecution documents, including new applications, declarations of use, and other required submissions.
  • Gather and review specimens and supporting documentation for submission to the USPTO and other applicable agencies.
  • Retrieve and review trademark dockets to ensure accurate activity tracking and deadline management.
  • Maintain organized and accurate trademark records and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to internal and external document requests and inquiries related to trademark matters.
Trademark Searches & Research
  • Conduct comprehensive trademark searches using USPTO and other trademark databases.
  • Perform online research related to trademark availability, disputes, and portfolio matters.
  • Review and analyze search results and provide relevant information to supporting attorneys.
  • Assist attorneys with fact-finding and investigation activities.
Disputes & Legal Support
  • Coordinate and organize documentation and information requests related to trademark disputes.
  • Assist attorneys with case preparation, investigations, and supporting documentation.
  • Draft clear and concise trademark-related correspondence, including cease & desist letters and communications with outside counsel.
  • Liaise with outside law firms, internal business partners, and senior management regarding trademark matters and disputes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of trademark prosecution experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and submitting documents to the USPTO.
  • Experience in preparing declarations of use and gathering trademark specimens.
  • Strong familiarity with USPTO trademark databases and other trademark search tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve, review, and analyze trademark dockets.
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple files, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, identify issues, and propose solutions to attorneys or supervisors when appropriate.
  • Proficiency with database management, Microsoft Excel, and legal software platforms.

The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented and self-directed trademark professional who can step into an active legal environment and contribute quickly. This individual should be comfortable working directly with attorneys and outside counsel, managing sensitive legal information, tracking critical deadlines, and independently preparing high-quality trademark documentation and correspondence.

  • Initial Interview: 30-minute virtual interview via Microsoft Teams
  • Final Interview: On-site panel interview with members of the legal team
