Temporary Works Manager – Civil Engineering
Location: Scotland (projects across Highlands & Central Belt)
The Opportunity We are working with a leading UK civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure and energy transition projects across Scotland. With a strong reputation built over decades, the business operates across sectors including onshore wind, substations, roads, marine works, and heavy civil infrastructure.
Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, we are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Manager to take ownership of temporary works strategy, coordination, and assurance across multiple live sites.
This is a key leadership role, working closely with delivery teams on complex, large-scale civils schemes in challenging environments.
The Role As Temporary Works Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all temporary works are properly designed, coordinated, implemented, and controlled in line with industry best practice and statutory requirements.
You will act as the central point of authority for temporary works across projects, supporting safe, efficient, and compliant delivery.

You will act as the central point of authority for temporary works across projects, supporting safe, efficient, and compliant delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Temporary Works function across multiple civils projects
- Ensure full compliance with BS 5975 and company procedures
- Appoint and oversee Temporary Works Coordinators (TWCs) and Supervisors (TWSs)
- Review and approve temporary works designs, calculations, and methodologies
- Coordinate with design teams, site management, and subcontractors
- Maintain the Temporary Works Register and ensure all permits and approvals are in place
- Carry out audits, inspections, and assurance reviews across sites
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineering and site teams
- Drive a strong health & safety culture, ensuring risk is mitigated at all stages
- Proven experience in a Temporary Works Manager / Senior TWC role within civil engineering
- Strong background in heavy civils – e.g. earthworks, structures, infrastructure, or energy projects
- In-depth knowledge of BS 5975 and temporary works procedures
- Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Chartered or working towards (ICE or similar) desirable
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills
- Ability to operate across multiple sites and manage competing priorities
