Role Overview: You will be responsible for technical safety engineering and technological risk assessments across operating assets, ensuring major risks are identified, assessed, controlled, and kept within ALARP principles. You will act as a focal point for risk assessments, major risk registers and safety studies supporting operations, projects, and modifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update and maintain:
- Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) / Detailed Risk Assessments (DRA)
- Technological Risk Assessments and Major Risk Registers
- Safety & Environmental Critical Elements (SECE) and associated Performance Standards
- Safety concept documents for operating assets and projects
- Plan, lead and/or participate in safety engineering studies and workshops, including:
- HAZID, HAZOP, SIL and ALARP demonstration sessions
- Non-process hazard risk assessments (e.g. ship collision, dropped objects, etc.)
- Perform consequence modelling and specialist studies:
- Flare radiation and dispersion studies
- Consequence modelling using PHAST or similar tools
- Flare & vent studies
- Hazardous area classification in line with IP15 and API RP 500/505
- Track and report process safety KPIs (including hydrocarbon releases) and maintain relevant registers and reports.
- Provide safety engineering input to:
- Field operations, engineering & construction, major projects and SIMOPS
- Management of Change (MoC) related to operating assets and projects
- Prepare scopes of work for safety engineering and technological risk studies and review third-party deliverables.
- Engineering Degree or Master’s in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum 12 years’ experience performing technical safety / process safety studies in the oil & gas industry (offshore experience preferred).
- Strong, hands-on experience in:
- QRA / DRA, ALARP demonstration
- Major Risk Registers & SECE management
- HAZID / HAZOP / SIL workshops and reports
- EERA and non-process hazard risk assessments
- Practical expertise with risk assessment tools and databases such as:
PHAST, FlareSIM, OREDA, OGP, HCRD, UKOOA, PARLOC. - Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills; able to coordinate with operations, projects and HSE teams.
- Willingness to perform offshore/site visits as required.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
