Job Title: Technical Safety Engineer – Upstream
Location: Paris, France (with periodic travel to project sites)
Division: Upstream HSE
Reporting To: Upstream HSE Manager
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Safety Engineer to oversee and coordinate all upstream technical safety engineering activities for a major LNG project. The role is responsible for ensuring that safety engineering principles are embedded across all upstream packages, supporting design, construction, commissioning, and start-up phases, and maintaining alignment with international safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Technical Safety discipline in the project organization and provide leadership on all upstream safety matters.
  • Lead hazard studies including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and QRA, and maintain Critical Event Registers, Major Risk Registers, and TRA Assumptions Registers.
  • Ensure completion and quality of Detailed Risk Analyses and ALARP demonstrations.
  • Track closure of all PHA/HAZOP actions and ensure procedural compliance prior to commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs) and performance standards in line with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, commissioning, operations, and contractor teams to integrate risk mitigation into design and execution.
  • Support interface reviews to avoid duplication or gaps in technical safety responsibilities.
  • Provide technical input to ICSS integration, OTPs, SIMOPS, and commissioning documentation.
  • Deliver regular safety status reports and lessons learned throughout project execution.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Chemical, or Process Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in upstream oil and gas project safety engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of international safety standards and upstream project safety processes.
  • Proven ability to lead safety assessments and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluent English; professional representation of safety matters in complex environments.
  • Valid BOSIET and OGUK Offshore Medical certifications.

Proven leadership in technical safety, strong analytical and communication skills, ability to work across multiple locations, and commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and compliant project outcomes.
