Orion Group has been retained by an established industrial engineering business to recruit a Structural Engineer with an active Professional Engineer licence.

This position will take ownership of the structural design, analysis and validation of air pollution control systems and associated industrial equipment. You will work closely with engineering, project management, sales and drafting teams, while providing PE review and stamping where required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analyse structural steel systems for industrial equipment and projects.
  • Work on support structures, platforms, stairs, ladders and walkways.
  • Design duct supports, stiffening systems, exhaust stacks and other vertical structures.
  • Review equipment anchorage and foundation loading requirements.
  • Assess wind, seismic, thermal expansion, operational and equipment loads.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations in accordance with applicable codes.
  • Provide PE review and stamping for structural designs where required.
  • Review drawings, models and fabrication packages for structural accuracy.
  • Work alongside mechanical and systems engineers to integrate structural components.
  • Support project managers with RFIs and structural questions during fabrication, installation and commissioning.
  • Provide technical input during project estimation and proposal development.
  • Conduct occasional site visits for design validation, troubleshooting and customer meetings.
  • Develop structural design standards, calculation templates and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor engineers working towards FE and PE licensure.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms when specialist or additional support is required.
Experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer licence.
  • Approximately 5–10 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel design and analysis.
  • Experience working to AISC, ASCE, IBC and AWS standards.
  • Industrial, manufacturing or equipment-related structural experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience producing calculations and stamped drawings for fabricated systems or industrial applications.
  • Ability to interpret construction documents, fabrication drawings and engineering calculations.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit or similar design platforms.
  • Knowledge of STAAD, RISA or comparable structural analysis software would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with relevant NFPA standards would also be advantageous.
