Job Title: Site Lifting Specialist
Location: Afungi Peninsula, Palma, Mozambique
Rotation: 28/28 Onshore Rotation
Reporting To: Site HSE Manager (Functionally aligned with CPLO)
About the Role:
An international EPC project in Mozambique is seeking an experienced Site Lifting Specialist (SLS) to support the safe planning and execution of all lifting and rigging operations on a major onshore construction site. The successful candidate will spend approximately 75% of their time in the field, ensuring lifting activities comply with all relevant legislation, procedures, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and recommend lifting procedures and risk assessments submitted by contractors and subcontractors.
- Verify certification, competence, and coordination of lifting teams including crane operators, riggers, and banksmen.
- Oversee complex lifting operations and supervise simple lifts on site.
- Provide toolbox talks, pre-lift briefings, and practical on-site coaching and mentoring.
- Participate in audits and inspections of lifting equipment, ensuring all gear is maintained, certified, and color-coded.
- Ensure adherence to Permit to Work systems and lifting-related control measures.
- Support lifting safety awareness campaigns and act as an on-site ambassador for safe lifting practices.
- Collaborate with construction and HSE teams to identify and mitigate risks in lifting operations.
- Maintain and update lifting instructions, procedures, and records.
- Provide regular reports to the CPLO, including audits, incidents, and improvement actions.
- Conduct periodic assessments of team competencies and lead refresher training where required.
- Participate in emergency response drills related to lifting incidents.
Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including at least 7 years as a lifting specialist.
- Strong background in lifting operations, engineering controls, and HSE in large-scale onshore construction.
- Engineering degree or equivalent vocational qualification in construction or HSE.
- Demonstrable experience in LNG, oil & gas, or heavy industrial projects.
- Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluent in English (Portuguese is a plus).
- Strong interpersonal, mentoring, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Physically and mentally fit to work 12-hour shifts in a rotation schedule.
This is a rotational site-based role with a strong emphasis on field presence and leadership by example.
