Orion Group is supporting a leading national infrastructure and construction contractor delivering the £185 million A9 Tomatin to Moy upgrade.

Our client is transforming a key section of the route by converting the existing single‑carriageway into a dual carriageway, constructing four new bridges, and improving junctions and side roads to enhance safety and regional transport links.
Successful candidates will enjoy being part of a major national improvement programme, contributing to meaningful work that directly enhances local infrastructure, safety and economic growth across the Highlands.
 
What you'll be doing

3Role Purpose
  • Undertake site engineering control and implementation of works on site, including monitoring and reporting progress.
  • The project involves significant heavy civil engineering such as earthworks, drainage, and roads
Accountabilities

Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Produce Task Briefing Sheets
  • Contribute to production of Permit to Dig, including briefing to the workforce
  • Carry out briefings and toolbox talks
  • Conduct Safety Inspections
  • Identify hazards and contribute to developing Safe Systems of Work
Engineering Control
  • Set out from primary control provided by others
  • Provide sketches detailing the setting out information installed
  • Maintain survey equipment, including registers and testing regimes
  • Read and determine information from drawings, schedules, and specifications
Quality
  • Produce as-built drawings and records for every element of the works involved
  • Complete Quality Check Sheets and produce information for Handover Documentation in line with programme
  • Maintain accurate records – Daily Diary, photographs, records of site discussions
Productivity
  • Measure actual materials used and reconcile with theoretical measures, reporting and investigating reasons for differences
  • Work to Weekly Programme (drafted by others) and mark up progress achieved weekly
  • Contribute to collection of data for Key Performance Indicators, including reasons for difference
Commercial
  • Produce accurate daily diary of resources, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, and outputs
  • Produce weekly measure, take-offs, and schedule materials accurately, producing clear requisitions and following through to delivery
  • Understand what is classified as additional work and how to record this
  • Be familiar with actual resourcing levels versus budget and report reasons for differences

  • Use setting out techniques and survey equipment
  • Report issues with control and information provided
Quality
  • Read and understand drawings and schedules
  • Understand Activity Control Plans and produce resultant information for handover file
  • Have a strong understanding of construction tolerances
  • Be aware of and use Specification and other Contract documents
  • Produce detailed documentation for handover of completed works
Productivity
  • Take off and schedule material quantities accurately
Commercial
  • Have knowledge of specification and contract documents
  • Understand what constitutes additional works
Desirable
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Targeting and actively progressing professional accreditation (e.g., ICE, IHT)
  • EUSR Cat 1 & 2 Training
