Orion Group Life Sciences are looking for a Senior (Reliability) Engineer on behalf of our Multinational Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology client located in Breda. Initial 12-month contract, with highly possibility of extension. This is a fully onsite position.

Role Summary


The Senior Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring safety, reliability, availability, and maintainability of our production- and utility equipment and processes. This role drives proactive reliability strategies, identifies and mitigates risks, and partners cross-functionally to improve asset performance and reduce unplanned downtime.

Main Responsibilities of the role

  • Reliability Strategy & Execution:
    • Develop and implement reliability programs (RCM, FMEA, Weibull analysis, etc.).
    • Define and track key reliability KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, OEE, failure rates).
    • Lead reliability improvement initiatives across assets and processes.
    • Set out spare-part strategy to ensure cost-effectiveness throughout lifecycle.
  • Failure Analysis & Problem Solving:
    • Lead root cause investigations (RCA) for critical failures.
    • Apply structured methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis).
    • Translate findings into corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Asset Lifecycle Management & Performance Optimization:
    • Optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
    • Leverage condition monitoring and data analytics to anticipate failures.
    • Support CMMS/EAM system effectiveness and data integrity.
  • Design & Asset Lifecycle Management:
    • Provide reliability input during design, procurement, and commissioning.
    • Ensure maintainability and reliability principles are embedded early.
    • Support qualification/validation where applicable (especially in regulated environments).
    • Drives Asset Lifecycle Management actions to mitigate risks during lifecycle of the equipment.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and assess risks related to single points of failure (maintenance, technical performance, spare parts, obsolescence).
    • Develop mitigation strategies, including redundancy or dual sourcing where relevant.
    • Support business continuity and contingency planning.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and external suppliers.
    • Influence decision-making with data-driven insights.
    • Mentor/coach engineers and promote reliability best practices.
Required Qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Aerospace or related field).
  • 5-8+ years in reliability, maintenance, or asset management roles.
  • Proven track record in improving equipment or system reliability.
  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., pharma, biotech, manufacturing) is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of reliability methodologies (RCM, FMEA, RCA, Weibull).
  • Experience with CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo).
  • Experience with maintenance program optimization, Asset Lifecycle Management and Spare part Management.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Safety mindset.

  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Leadership and coaching capabilities.
