Orion Group has been retained by an established civil engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Civil Engineering Project Manager.

This position will take responsibility for the successful and profitable delivery of civil engineering and land development projects. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary project teams, maintain strong client relationships and ensure designs are delivered within agreed budgets, schedules and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage civil engineering and land development projects from initial planning through design, permitting and construction.
  • Lead the preparation and final review of site plans, construction drawings, specifications, bid documents and cost estimates.
  • Review reports, due diligence assessments, feasibility studies, maps, record drawings, as-built information and GIS data.
  • Perform and review civil engineering calculations relating to:
    • Grading and drainage
    • Stormwater management
    • Hydrology and hydraulics
    • Utility infrastructure
    • Roadways and paving
    • Earthwork volumes
    • ADA compliance
  • Analyse survey data, existing site conditions, aerial imagery and topographical and geological information.
  • Estimate construction quantities using both construction drawings and digital design information.
  • Coordinate revisions requested by clients, municipalities and regulatory agencies.
  • Research local and state zoning requirements, engineering standards, codes, ordinances and permitting processes.
  • Guide projects through the relevant regulatory review and approval processes.
  • Visit construction sites to monitor progress and resolve project-related issues.
  • Ensure projects comply with internal quality, engineering and drawing standards.
  • Prepare proposals, project reports, technical presentations and other supporting documentation.
  • Represent the organisation and its clients before boards, commissions and regulatory authorities.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, contractors and subconsultants.
  • Direct and supervise engineers, design technicians, CAD operators and surveyors.
  • Coach and mentor project team members, encouraging accountability and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports when required.
  • Proactively identify and resolve project risks, technical issues and team conflicts.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 15 years of civil engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer licence required.
  • Strong experience managing civil engineering, infrastructure and/or land development projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple projects, deadlines and budgets.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of local and state engineering requirements, permitting processes and applicable design standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong client management, leadership and problem-solving abilities.
Working Environment

The position will involve a combination of professional office-based work and visits to active construction or project sites. Site visits may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction equipment, moving vehicles, noise, dust and other typical construction-site hazards.

The successful candidate must be able to wear the required personal protective equipment and safely perform the physical requirements associated with site inspections.
