Great opportunity to work as a Senior / Principal Project Engineer for a fast growing Renewable Energy Company who are building new long duration energy storage facilities in the UK. 

The Role:

The Senior Project Engineer (Multi-Discipline) will play a key role in the delivery of a project currently being executed near Manchester - a 300 MWh capacity Energy Storage Facility, with a strong focus on the execution phase of the project, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

You will be very familiar with design requirements for hazardous process plant, having previous experience in either the petrochemical, gas processing, chemicals, or oil and gas industries. Power generation experience is also relevant.

You will be responsible for coordinating across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, and instrumentation & controls) to ensure safe, efficient, and timely project delivery. Acting as a key interface between engineering, construction, vendors, and subcontractors, you will drive progress on-site, resolve technical and logistical challenges, and ensure works are executed in line with project requirements.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong site presence, construction experience, and the ability to manage complex interfaces in a fast-paced project environment.

Key Activities:

The responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:

Construction & Execution Leadership
  • Support and drive on-site construction activities across all disciplines
  • Coordinate daily execution priorities with construction managers and supervisors
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with the project programme
  • Identify and resolve site-based technical and coordination issues in real time
  • Monitor construction progress and productivity, implementing corrective actions where required
Multi-Discipline Coordination
  • Act as the central interface between mechanical, electrical, civil, and control system teams
  • Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables and construction requirements
  • Coordinate installation sequences and manage interdependencies between disciplines
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and method statements to support site execution
Contractor & Vendor Management
  • Work closely with subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards
  • Manage technical queries (TQs), RFIs, and site clarifications
  • Coordinate vendor activities including delivery, installation support, and commissioning assistance
  • Ensure all required documentation and information is available for site activities
Project Controls & Reporting
  • Track progress against schedule and support short-term and long-term planning
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager on progress, risks, and issues
  • Identify and escalate risks, delays, and potential impacts to cost and schedule
  • Support change management and variation processes with technical input
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to HSE requirements
  • Support implementation of quality processes, including inspections and test plans (ITPs)
  • Ensure installations comply with design specifications, standards, and regulations
  • Participate in inspections, walkdowns, and handover processes
Commissioning & Handover Support
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across all systems
  • Ensure systems are installed and tested in line with commissioning requirements
  • Assist with system handover, punch list management, and
Key Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Project Engineer in large-scale industrial or energy projects
  • Strong construction and site execution experience is essential
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-discipline interfaces (mechanical, electrical, civil, controls)
  • Experience working in complex project environments with multiple contractors and stakeholders
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation, including:
    • General arrangement drawings
    • P&IDs
    • Electrical schematics
    • Civil and structural drawings
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach
  • Experience working to UK standards and regulations
  • HNC / HND or Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Desirable:
  • Experience on energy, power generation, or infrastructure projects
  • Experience in commissioning and system handover
  • Familiarity with large-scale plant installation and integration
  • Experience working in fast-paced, first-of-a-kind or technically complex projects
  • Previous experience working in a client-side or EPC environment
