Senior Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Equipment
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Assignment Type: Resident, 12-month contract
Commencement: Q2 or Q3 2026
Reporting To: Lead Mechanical Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide mechanical expertise across central processing facility and 29 well pads, including 4 × 21 MW gas turbine generators, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, and API 610 oil export and water injection pumps.
  • Support operations and maintenance, ensuring highest efficiency, equipment reliability, and compliance with safety procedures.
  • Lead, mentor, and guide junior engineers, promoting technical development and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical procedures, condition monitoring programs, and preventive/conditional/corrective maintenance plans (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, UNISOL, machine efficiency).
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, including resource planning (tools, spare parts, and equipment) to minimize operational risk.
  • Assist commissioning and start-up teams, ensuring smooth integration of rotating equipment into operational systems.
  • Conduct technical surveys, analyze equipment performance, and prepare improvement proposals.
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor performance, ensuring compliance with procedures, quality standards, and project objectives.
  • Support procurement and spare parts selection, as well as repairs in external workshops.
  • Foster a culture of safety and HSE awareness, ensuring all mechanical activities comply with site and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve mechanical challenges, optimize production, and implement best practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in rotating and static mechanical systems within petroleum and gas operations, including maintenance, operations, and project support.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards (ASME, TEMA) and general mechanical specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills; proficient in Microsoft Office; fluent in English.
