Orion Group Life Sciences are looking for a Senior Engineer (Senior Automation Engineer) on behalf of our Multinational Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology client located in Breda. Initial 12-month contract, with highly possibility of extension. This is a fully onsite role.

What will you do?


The Equipment Automation team in Breda is within the Equipment Engineering department and is seeking an enthusiastic, results-oriented and experienced Automation Engineer to join their growing organization in Breda.
The candidate will be responsible for the automation aspects related to the implementation of new or upgraded equipment in manufacturing, withing Device Assembly, Inspection, Labeling and Packaging areas, to ensure equipment reliability and organization readiness and sustainability.
He/she is responsible for overseeing the automation criteria within the design, installation, and lifecycle of equipment used in the operations. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient equipment performance, troubleshooting equipment failures, and implementing improvements to optimize productivity and safety.

Design Engineering:
  • Author and/or review design documents such as User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Specification Document (FDS), Hardware Design Specification (HDS) and Software Design Specification (SDS).
  • Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment systems to ensure equipment is implemented in the Manufacturing network of our client taking network security settings (incl. domain settings and firewalls) into account.
  • Support FAT/commissioning/qualification activities as required.
Day-to-day Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the delivery of the Equipment Automation aspects according to project timelines.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI)on the site.
  • Support the test phase at equipment vendor and on-site together with the project team.
  • Ensure equipment is secured with standards of security software of our client.
  • Deliver progress reporting to (Project) Management.
  • Implement automation standards of our client for hardware and software.
  • Install mandatory monitoring tools.
  • Participate in Data Integrity Assessments.
  • Conduct Automation Preventive Maintenance assessments.
  • Advise on Automation spare parts to create Asset Spare parts List.
  • Create and test backup/restore procedures/Work Instructions for configurable parts.
  • Create parameter and audit trail review procedures/Work Instructions.
  • Creation/update of Asset Parameter Lists (APL’s) of the equipment.
  • Support the connection to PI data historian.
  • Provide Automation training to the Maintenance and Engineering department and applicable Operators.
  • Provide operational hypercare support on the floor as needed.
  • Update any other documentation of our client to sustain operational support.
Required Qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial Automation Engineering, Industrial Information Systems.
  • Proven experience of independent project execution in a cross functional, global environment within IS and Engineering.
  • At least 5 years’ experience providing process control and information systems solutions and support to manufacturing organizations in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Proven Experience with labelling and packaging equipment.
  • Familiar systems: Industrial PC, PLC, HMI, SCADA and vision systems (Cognex).
  • Established disciplinary knowledge within own specialty area.
  • Direct experience with regulated environment (e.g. GMP, OSHA, EPA).
  • Strong competencies in automation with the ability to oversee multiple activities while maintaining a focus on quality.
  • Occasionally work outside office hours.
  • Fluency in English, both in oral and written communication.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills to effectively communicate and build relationships with a broad spectrum of diverse audiences around the world.
  • Ability to influence and drive projects in matrix teams.
  • Proven ability to grasp general knowledge of multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively (verbal and written) with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce and present clear and concise presentations.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, skills and knowledge to solve issues.
  • Ability to contribute creative yet practical solutions to problems.
  • Self-directed, flexible to adapt to a dynamic environment.
