Location: Afungi, Mozambique
Contract: 12 months, renewable
About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Contract Engineer to join a major international energy project in Mozambique.
The successful candidate will play a key role within the Contracts & Procurement function, managing complex contracting activities from strategy development and tendering through to commercial negotiation, award and contract management.
This is a senior position requiring strong Contracts & Procurement expertise, excellent commercial and negotiation skills, and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders across technical, operational, legal, finance and management functions.

About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Contract Engineer to join a major international energy project in Mozambique.
The successful candidate will play a key role within the Contracts & Procurement function, managing complex contracting activities from strategy development and tendering through to commercial negotiation, award and contract management.
This is a senior position requiring strong Contracts & Procurement expertise, excellent commercial and negotiation skills, and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders across technical, operational, legal, finance and management functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with internal business stakeholders to develop comprehensive contract dossiers and clearly define contractual responsibilities.
- Develop contracting strategies and issue calls for tender to identify suitable contractors and service providers.
- Prepare and manage complex tendering processes.
- Conduct detailed commercial bid analysis and negotiations.
- Prepare Recommendations to Award (RTA) and lead their presentation to the relevant Contracts Committee or approval authority.
- Establish and maintain technical contracts and contractual agreements, taking a leading role in the most complex contracts.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of qualified contractors, suppliers, potential tenders and contracts to support market studies and sourcing activities.
- Ensure effective handover of awarded contracts to relevant partner entities.
- Monitor contractor performance in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Monitor ongoing contract status and participate in contract renewals, amendments and related negotiations.
- Support the settlement of contractual claims and disputes in collaboration with Legal, Insurance, Finance and Management teams.
- Monitor relevant KPIs and ensure that contract management tools and records are kept up to date.
- Ensure that insurance matters relating to company assets and personnel are appropriately addressed.
- Make effective use of existing framework agreements where applicable.
- Keep abreast of best practices in contract and procurement procedures and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Support and train newly recruited Contracts & Procurement personnel through induction and knowledge transfer.
- Master's degree or equivalent qualification.
- 10–15 years of professional experience in Contracts & Procurement.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in technical contracts, with exposure to operational environments.
- Advanced technical competencies in Contracts & Procurement.
- Advanced knowledge and certification in relevant Contracts & Procurement tools.
- Strong experience managing complex tenders, commercial evaluations and contract negotiations.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of operational activities and the ability to manage cross-functional and cross-branch issues.
- Proven ability in management, problem solving, planning, organising, coordinating and controlling.
- Excellent command of English.
- Ability to work effectively with technical, operational, legal, finance and management stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and build consensus.
- Experience in training and mentoring C&P personnel.
