About the Role

We are supporting the delivery of a major energy infrastructure project in the North West of England and are seeking a Senior Civil Project Engineer to join the project delivery team during a critical execution phase.
This role will focus on the coordination and delivery of civil and structural works, including earthworks, foundations, drainage, reinforced concrete, and structural steel interfaces. The position is site-based and requires a hands-on approach to managing construction activities, contractors, and technical interfaces.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring civil works are delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards, while coordinating closely with multi-discipline teams across engineering, construction, and commissioning.


Key Responsibilities

Construction & Site Execution
  • Lead and support on-site civil and structural construction activities
  • Coordinate daily work fronts with construction teams and supervisors
  • Monitor progress across earthworks, piling, foundations, and concrete works
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with programme, quality, and safety requirements
  • Identify and resolve technical and construction issues on site
Engineering & Design Coordination
  • Act as the interface between civil design teams and construction
  • Review and interpret issued-for-construction drawings and specifications
  • Ensure alignment between design deliverables and site execution
  • Manage design changes and communicate updates effectively to site teams
  • Coordinate with structural and geotechnical engineers
Multi-Discipline Coordination
  • Coordinate civil works with mechanical, electrical, and control system installations
  • Manage interfaces such as equipment foundations, cable routes, and drainage systems
  • Support sequencing and planning of works in line with the overall programme
  • Contribute to constructability and installation planning reviews
Contractor Management
  • Work closely with civil subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Review method statements, risk assessments, and temporary works designs
  • Manage RFIs, technical queries, and site clarifications
  • Monitor contractor performance, productivity, and quality
Project Controls & Reporting
  • Track progress against key milestones and schedule
  • Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and issues
  • Identify delays and implement mitigation strategies
  • Support change management and cost control processes
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all site activities
  • Ensure compliance with HSE standards and project requirements
  • Support inspection and test plans (ITPs) and quality assurance processes
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and site walkdowns
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK standards and regulations
Commissioning & Handover
  • Support pre-commissioning activities for civil infrastructure
  • Ensure readiness for installation of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Assist with punch list management and handover of civil works
  • Ensure completion of as-built documentation

Key Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Civil Project Engineer on large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects
  • Strong background in site-based construction delivery
  • Experience with:
    • Earthworks and groundworks
    • Piling and foundations
    • Reinforced concrete structures
    • Structural steel interfaces
    • Drainage and external works
  • Ability to interpret civil and structural drawings and specifications
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and site logistics
  • Experience managing contractors and multiple stakeholders
  • Familiarity with UK standards and construction regulations
  • HNC / HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Desirable
  • Experience in energy, power generation, or heavy industrial projects
  • Knowledge of hazardous or process plant environments
  • Experience with temporary works coordination
  • Exposure to commissioning and project handover phases
  • Experience working within client-side or EPC project environments
