POSITION TITLE: SDC SHM Certification Engineer
KEY ROLE SUMMARY
The Shah Deniz Compression (SDC) project will build a new electric Normally Unattended Installation (eNUI) Platform, controlled remotely from shore. It is a compression platform with electrically driven compressors which will deliver additional gas volumes to increase gas production from the Shah Deniz field. The SDC project will install new pipelines, spools and manifolds that will be integrated with the existing Shah Deniz pipeline network via subsea tie-ins. Complex brownfield activities across multiple live platforms will be required to facilitate the subsea pipeline tie-ins.
The System Handover Management (SHM) Certification Engineer is a key member of the SDC Subsea Commissioning Team based in Baku. The primary responsibility is to support the collection, verification and compilation of certification records, engineering deliverables and as-built information required for system handover, in accordance with the Company’s approved System Handover Management Procedure and project requirements for the SDC subsea infrastructure.
The role will work under the guidance and mentorship of the Senior SHM Certification Engineer and will support the administration and maintenance of the project completions and certification system. The role provides an opportunity to develop practical competency in mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning certification and system handover activities.
The role requires previous experience or demonstrable knowledge of commissioning, completions, certification or engineering information management systems. Experience within an offshore, subsea or major projects environment would be advantageous.

RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES
Accountabilities:
- Work under the direction and mentorship of the Senior SHM Certification Engineer, actively participating in agreed training and competency-development activities.
- Support the collection, checking and compilation of relevant certification records and as-built data required for Handover Certification Documentation, in accordance with the Company’s System Handover Management Procedure.
- Upload approved engineering deliverables required by the Commissioning Team into the Omega PIMS database, following the agreed document-control and verification process.
- Liaise with the Omega PIMS Representative and the Senior SHM Certification Engineer on routine administration, data-quality and system-related matters.
- Support coordination with Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Operations teams for Mechanical Completion, Pre-Commissioning, Dynamic Commissioning and Final Handover requirements.
- Prepare routine certification status reports, progress updates and data extracts for review by the Senior SHM Certification Engineer and Subsea Commissioning Lead.
- Contribute to and actively support an excellent HSE culture, actively promoting the regional goals of ‘No accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the environment’, and ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with bp’s Code of Conduct and applicable project requirements.
- Provide support and input to the SDC Subsea Commissioning Lead and wider Subsea Commissioning Team, as required.
- Support implementation of and compliance with the SHMP process from Mechanical Completion through to System Handover.
- Support the administration, maintenance and routine quality checking of the Project MC/PC System Handover Database.
- Check that engineering data proposed for upload into Omega PIMS has been reviewed and approved by the appropriate discipline or responsible person, and escalate identified gaps or discrepancies.
- Assist in maintaining the master Limit of System Handover (LOSH) drawings and associated boundary records, under the direction of the Senior SHM Certification Engineer.
- Monitor the status of Mechanical Completion and Pre-Commissioning certification requirements and highlight overdue, incomplete or potentially non-compliant records to the Senior SHM Certification Engineer.
- Support the preparation and delivery of Omega PIMS guidance and user support materials, as directed by the Senior SHM Certification Engineer.
- Support the development, update and implementation of detailed handover procedures, workflows and supporting guidance.
- Monitor Construction Contractor activities, including checksheets, punch lists, Management of Change records, as-built information, preservation records and Stage Acceptance Certificates, within the Omega PIMS database, and report identified omissions or irregularities.
- Check that current approved drawings and engineering documents are being referenced for certification activities, and raise any apparent document-control discrepancies.
- Support tracking of required project as-built drawings, including red-line and green-line mark-ups, through to back-drafting and final engineering acceptance.
- Maintain orderly and traceable certification records in accordance with project document-control and data-management requirements.
- Undertake routine checks of certification records for completeness, correct referencing, required signatures and alignment with the applicable system and subsystem boundaries.
- Assist with the preparation of certification dossiers and handover packs for review and acceptance by the responsible project authorities.
- Maintain trackers for outstanding certification records, punch-list items, handover deliverables and identified data-quality issues.
- Follow up routine certification actions with responsible discipline engineers and contractors, escalating unresolved matters through the Senior SHM Certification Engineer.
- Participate in certification reviews, system handover meetings and completions-system assurance activities, as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of certification and handover records.
- Comply with project information-security, document-control and data-protection requirements when accessing, processing or distributing project records.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
- The position is open to both experienced and junior candidates. Junior candidates must demonstrate the aptitude and willingness to develop their certification and system handover competency through structured mentoring and practical experience.
- Previous experience in commissioning, completions, certification, construction, engineering information management or a related project-delivery function.
- Experience using a completions, certification or engineering data-management system is preferred. Experience with Omega PIMS or a comparable system would be advantageous.
- Basic understanding of commissioning, completions and system handover processes, with the ability and willingness to develop further competency through structured mentoring and practical experience.
- Competent in communicating in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work on own initiative within defined responsibilities, while recognising when guidance, review or escalation is required.
- Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- Demonstrable willingness to learn, respond positively to coaching and progressively develop competency in SHM and Omega PIMS responsibilities.
- Ability to produce clear records, trackers, status reports and written correspondence.
- Ability to interact constructively with Pipeline/Flowline, Controls, Umbilical, Construction, Commissioning, Operations and Engineering personnel.
- Computer literate in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, and able to develop competency in project certification databases.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to identify missing, inconsistent or incorrectly referenced information.
- Ability to manage assigned priorities and follow routine actions through to completion.
- Understanding of the importance of document traceability, revision control and accurate project records.
- Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural project team.
