Orion Group has partnered once more with our premiere pharmaceutical client in North Chicago, IL as they have an opening for a Scientist III. If you’re an experienced Scientist with strong cell culture skills and passionate about drug discovery, read on!
This position will play a key role in the development of complex in vitro models to support late-stage internal programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with primary cell culture and complex in vitro models and a potential of applying these models to advance drug discovery programs. The applicant should be a creative, research driven scientist interested in combining a knowledge of autoimmune disease with complex in vitro models to advance drug discovery.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development of complex in vitro models that mimic the pathophysiology of immune mediated diseases with a focus on Skin autoimmunity
- Identify, internalize, develop, and optimize new methods and technologies to deliver in vitro models of Skin autoimmune diseases using commercial and custom Skin on a chip microphysiological systems
- Utilize complex in vitro models to drive the advancement of novel therapeutics and combinations
- Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement novel experimental approaches
- Generate data in a timely manner and effectively communicate results internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents
- Effectively and accurately record experimental results
- A strong team player in a cross functional collaborative environment thriving for world class excellence and maintains strong working relationships with internal, global, and external collaborators
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8+ years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 6+ years of experience, or PhD and typically 0 years of experience.
- Extensive experience with primary cell cultures and in vitro cell based assays is required.
- Experience specifically with primary keratinocytes, organoids, dermal fibroblasts and human immune cells is preferred
- Experience in complex in vitro models (i.e. spheroids, organoids, organ-on-a-chip, microfluidics) is preferred
- Experience with disease modeling using primary cells and microphysiological systems a plus
- Experience with imaging technologies
- Project management experience preferred
- Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed organization.
- Established history of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team when required
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and specifically illustrate strong oral and written technical communications.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and capability to overcome complex issues.
