Job Summary
The Rig Systems Engineer for integrated facilities is responsible for leading projects and ensuring asset integrity through collaboration with project engineers and the rig’s drilling contractor. Key projects include structural modifications, digital system installations, equipment upgrades, and major maintenance routines.

Key responsibilities include planning and executing offshore projects, managing drilling contractor relationships, and leading agile contractor teams to meet project objectives. The role encompasses budget development, cost control, and value improvement practices, alongside establishing and maintaining project management standards. Operational support for Well Superintendents, innovative engineering solutions, and technology integration are critical components of this position.

The Rig System Engineer will oversee maintenance processes, incident management, and integrity assurance of rig systems. Additionally, responsibilities include oversight of critical spares, change management, and competence assurance of contractor teams. The role also involves leading rig stacking strategies, assessing future operational readiness, and ensuring safe and compliant demobilization activities.

Essential qualifications include strong communication skills, subject matter expertise, proficiency in reporting and analytics, and experience with workplace collaboration tools and leadership development. Knowledge of hazard analysis and logistics management is also required, along with familiarity of materials management processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute offshore projects in coordination with the Sr. Rig Engineer, Well Superintendent, Project Engineers, Planners, and stakeholders across Wells and Production.
  • Lead two agile contractor teams to deliver asset management and maintain project objectives.
  • Oversee development and update of 5-year maintenance plan and project strategy on an annual basis, including scope prioritization, phasing, and financial forecasting.
  • Validate invoices and value of work done by the rig contractor. Develop the annual capital budgets, track earned value, forecast-to-complete, and implement value improvement practices.
  • Establish and maintain project management standards and reporting consistency across teams, including project performance and KPI’s.
  • Facilitate day-to-day needs of Well Superintendents and coordinate with functional groups in Wells and Production.
  • Provide innovative engineering and operational solutions to enhance rig efficiency and safety.
  • Drive adoption of new technologies, capture lessons learned and integrate improvements into standards and design.
  • Oversee maintenance & improvement processes, including Work Instruction Management, Bridging Documents, Risk Assessments, CMMS audits, Leadership Field Inspections, and performance reviews.
  • Lead investigations for equipment failures and process upsets; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Oversee contractor rig systems integrity strategy (pressure systems, structures, hoisting/rotating, electrical, control/automation) with inspection plans, KPIs, and risk registers.
  • Act as custodian for contractor spares strategy—stocking levels, obsolescence management, and refurbishment plans.
  • Serve as MoC owner for rig system modifications, ensuring technical authority approvals and documentation updates.
  • Verify contractor maintenance and engineering team competence through matrices, assessments, and critical task evaluations.
  • Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPC) for rig stacking plans across two integrated facilities. Responsibilities include comprehensive project planning, equipment removal, preservation and disposal, defining platform interface requirements, developing detailed schedules and cost forecasting.
  • Assess operational readiness of rigs during extended cold stacking periods. Evaluate options for modular rig configurations or facility upgrades to support future rig requirements and guide long-term intervention and drilling strategies.
  • Ensure all demobilization activities adhere to environmental, safety, and contractual obligations. Oversee execution supported by robust risk assessments, documentation updates, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in project management within the oil and gas industry, specifically in offshore drilling and rig operations.
  • Experience in managing rig stacking plans and ensuring safe and compliant demobilization activities. (This is a MUST)
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale projects and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of drilling contractor relationships and contractual obligations.
  • Experience with budget development, cost control, and value improvement practices.
  • Proficient in project management standards, reporting, and process governance.
