Project Manager II – Department Reorganization / Organizational Transformation
Location: Mettawa, IL 
Schedule: Hybrid – Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday onsite; Monday & Friday remote
Contract: 6 months to start, with potential for extension
Pay: $62- $67/hr, based on benefit selection


Orion Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager II to support a majordepartment reorganization and organizational transformation initiative for our pharmaceutical client in Mettawa, IL.
This individual will partner closely with department leadership and cross-functional workstream leads to coordinate the design and implementation of the future-state organization. The Project Manager will own the integrated project plan, keep multiple workstreams aligned, track milestones and dependencies, facilitate key decisions, and help ensure a smooth transition to new roles, responsibilities, processes, and ways of working.
This is a non-IT Project Manager role requiring someone who is highly organized, proactive, comfortable working across multiple business teams, and able to influence stakeholders without direct authority.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the department reorganization project from initial planning through implementation and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain an integrated project plan with clearly defined milestones, deliverables, owners, dependencies, and timelines.
  • Coordinate multiple cross-functional workstreams and ensure activities remain aligned with overall project objectives.
  • Track project progress, action items, decisions, risks, issues, and cross-workstream dependencies.
  • Facilitate project meetings, workstream reviews, and leadership decision-making sessions.
  • Prepare clear and timely project status updates, dashboards, recommendations, and leadership communications.
  • Proactively identify potential risks, roadblocks, resource constraints, and timing concerns and partner with stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Drive accountability and follow-through across teams while influencing stakeholders without direct management authority.
  • Support organizational readiness by documenting and communicating changes to roles, responsibilities, processes, and ways of working.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and appropriately handle confidential organizational and personnel information.
  • Capture lessons learned and ensure ongoing responsibilities are transitioned to the appropriate owners at project close.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of overall project/program management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, cross-functional business initiatives.
  • Strong experience developing and managing project plans, workstreams, milestones, deliverables, risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage several workstreams and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines and proactively drive business objectives.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, and coordinate stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience preparing project updates and communicating effectively with leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential organizational information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting organizational transformation, department reorganization/redesign, operating-model implementation, or change management initiatives.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience with Smartsheet.
  • Experience working within a large, complex, highly matrixed organization.
What Success Looks Like
The successful Project Manager will keep the reorganization moving forward by ensuring milestones and deliverables are completed according to plan, workstreams have clear ownership and aligned timelines, and cross-functional dependencies are actively managed.
Leadership should have consistent visibility into project status, risks, decisions, and next steps, while impacted stakeholders have a clear understanding of the future-state organization and changes to roles, responsibilities, processes, and ways of working.
