Project Manager – Finance Systems / FP&A Transformation
Location: North Chicago, IL
Work Model: Flexible (Hybrid or 100% Remote)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM CT
Contract Length: 12 months (with potential extension based on performance and business needs)
Pay Rate:
  • $82/hr with health, dental, vision, and 401(k) match (2%)
  • $87/hr with only dental and vision 
 
Orion Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Finance Systems / FP&A Transformation to support a high-impact financial systems initiative for a global pharmaceutical client. This role will be part of the Operations Finance Processes Team and will support the Manufacturing, Engineering & Contracting (ME&C) Plan Book Transformation project.
This position plays a critical role in supporting financial planning processes, system testing, training, go-live preparation, and post-go-live stabilization across SAP BPC and Workiva platforms. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in finance systems implementations within regulated or manufacturing environments.
 
Key Responsibilities
Finance Systems & FP&A Support
  • Support SAP Business Planning & Consolidation (BPC) activities during project execution and stabilization
  • Assist with financial planning processes, data validation, and system troubleshooting
  • Support new BPC processes and data validation exercises
  • Provide triage support for issue identification, logging, escalation, and resolution during project and post-go-live phases
User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Develop UAT test scripts, setup test data, and define testing processes
  • Guide end users through UAT execution
  • Coordinate and manage user testing activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Track defects, support defect resolution, and facilitate regression and re-testing
  • Document testing outcomes and ensure compliance with control requirements
Training & Change Enablement
  • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive training documentation
  • Deliver or support end-user training sessions
  • Ensure effective knowledge transfer to business users
  • Support adoption of new processes and tools
Go-Live & Hypercare Support
  • Participate in go-live planning and execution activities
  • Provide hands-on hypercare and post-go-live support
  • Rotate on-site support as needed during critical implementation phases
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure smooth stabilization and issue resolution
Workiva Support
  • Support initial Workiva setup (folders, access, master data linkage)
  • Link Plan Book data with Workiva or other applicable databases
  • Support Workiva UAT, training, and go-live activities following the same rigor as BPC testing
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Finance, Accounting, or FP&A
  • Proven hands-on experience delivering FP&A projects
  • Strong experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including:
    • Script writing
    • Execution
    • Defect tracking and resolution
  • Experience developing training documentation and conducting user training
  • Demonstrated involvement in go-live and hypercare activities
  • Solid understanding of financial planning and accounting principles
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to travel domestically approximately 1–2 weeks as needed

  • Experience supporting large-scale finance transformation or financial systems implementations
