We are seeking an experienced Project Manager/Engineer to support a large-scale oil & gas capital project in the Edmonton, AB area. This position offers the chance to work on technically challenging initiatives within an operating plant environment, managing projects from early design through execution.  The successful candidate will have a strong mix of engineering knowledge, project management expertise, and the ability to lead teams both in the office and in the field.
A commitment to safety, quality, and delivering results on time and on budget is essential.

About the Opportunity

As Project Manager/Engineer, you will take ownership of capital projects ranging from standalones to major outage initiatives. You will coordinate engineering, design, and construction resources, manage budgets and schedules, and provide hands-on leadership during execution.
This role requires someone who is confident leading contractors, engaging with operations, and ensuring projects are executed safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead capital projects through planning, design, procurement, and execution phases.
  • Develop estimates, funding documents, schedules, and forecasts in SAP.
  • Manage and coordinate engineering, design, and construction contractors.
  • Conduct process hazard reviews and ensure recommendations are actioned.
  • Provide direct field supervision and contractor oversight.
  • Champion safety by leading toolbox meetings, JSAs, and audits.
  • Maintain control of budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Ensure all projects meet operational requirements and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering or capital projects.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Location: Edmonton, AB and surrounding area
  • Requirement: Valid driver’s licence + ability to travel 25–40%
  • Eligibility: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Preferred:
  • 10 yrs Project Management experience in Construction management or field engineering in major Oil & Gas (Facilities) projects.
  • Experience in an operating facility, construction, or maintenance environment.
  • Ability to travel 25–40% depending on project requirements.
  • Ability to obtain certifications (TWIC, OSHA, refinery background checks).
Safety Leadership
Safety is central to this role. The Project Manager/Engineer will:
  • Lead project safety meetings and kickoff sessions.
  • Reinforce a “Zero Incidents” culture across all work fronts.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and JSA reviews.
  • Ensure all contractors comply with site-specific safety and emergency standards.
  • Actively participate in audits, safety sampling, and permitting processes.
